Astana Tigers
Tigers Astana Basketball Club ( kk, Zholbarystar Astana Basketbol Kluby) or more commonly Astana Tigers ( kk, Astana Zholbarystary) is a Kazakh basketball club based in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. Founded in 2000, the club competed in the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship where it won six consecutive titles from 2004 to 2010, also adding four Kazakhstan Basketball Cup titles. Since 2011 and the inception of rival BC Astana, who have won nearly every domestic trophy each year, the Tigers have seen their standing wane, as of June 2015 they now play in the second division Higher league. Astana, previously known as Akmolinsk, Tselinograd, Akmola, and most recently Nur-Sultan, is the capital city of Kazakhstan. Dmitri Alexandrovich Gavrilov (russian: Дмитрий Александрович Гаврилов; born 27 November 1986) is a Kazakhstani professional basketball player. He plays for BC Astana of the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship and the VTB United League. Professional career The Alma-Ata native started his career with home town side CSKA Almaty, staying there until 2008 when he was loaned to Barsy Atyrau.
