Association Of College Honor Societies
The Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS) is a predominantly American, voluntary association that serves a number of functions with respect to national collegiate and post-graduate honor societies. ACHS coordinates member organizations, facilitates communications between them, and provides both scholarships and an outlet for publication to members through its member organizations. ACHS member societies undergo periodic audits to validate their adherence to ACHS standards and their qualification for membership and ACHS certification. ACHS was formed in 1925 to create a network of affiliated societies and promote high standards for scholarship and leadership on campus. The intention of the founding societies was to establish and maintain desirable standards for groups wishing to call themselves honor societies. The Order of the Arrow, for example, is the National Honor Society of the Boy Scouts of America. Chiefly, the term refers to scholastic honor societies, those that recognize students who excel academically or as leaders among their peers, often within a specific academic discipline. Delta Epsilon Sigma () is a national scholastic honor society that was established in 1939 for students of Catholic universities and colleges in the United States. The society was founded at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa in 1939 by Father Fitzgerald. Delta Epsilon Sigma has 11chaptersacross the United States and has more than 39,000 members as of 2021. Membership Membership is by invitation sent from the college or university's chapter. Undergraduate students must be ranked in the top twenty percent of their class and have completed at least half of the credit requirements for their baccalaureate degree. Chi Sigma Iota ( or CSI) is the international and professional academic honor society for counseling students, counselor educators, and professional counselors. CSI is an active member of the Association of College Honor Societies (ACHS), where members and the society-at-large are protected by the standards set by ACHS. Alpha Sigma Mu () is a scholastic honor society recognizing academic achievement among students in the fields of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. The society was founded at Michigan Technological University in January, 1932. After expanding to three campuses, it maintained these three chapters without further growth until the society was reorganized in 1957 with the assistance of the American Society for Metals.
