The Assets Examination Committee ( Thai: คณะกรรมการตรวจสอบการกระทำที่ก่อให้เกิดความเสียหายแก่รัฐ; RTGS: ''Khana Kammakan Truat Sop Kan Kratham Thi Ko Hai Koet Khwam Sia Hai Kae Rat'', Literal Meaning: the Committee for Inspection of Acts being Detrimental to the State), abbreviated as AEC ( Thai: คตส., RTGS: khotoso), sometimes translated as the Assets Scrutiny Committee or ASC, is a now-defunct Thai administrative body in charge of scrutiny of assets of the ministers in the government of Pol Lt Col Thaksin Shinawatra. The Council for National Security, a military junta that overthrew Thaksin's government in 2006, accused those ministers of having gained assets in a manner against the law or detrimental to the state. Jaruvan Maintaka
Khun Ying Jaruvan Maintaka ( th, จารุวรรณ เมณฑกา; , born 5 July 1945) is a former Auditor-General of Thailand. She was appointed Auditor-General in December 2001 and refused to leave the office after the Constitutional Court ruled that her nomination was unlawful. She once again refused to give her office up when she reached her pension age and the Council of State ruled that she could no longer stay in the office. Her refusal to leave the office triggered fierce conflicts within the State Audit Office as some of its officials demanded her to respect the law and filed lawsuits against her. The Administrative Court eventually decided in October 2010 that she must vacate office. Jaruvan is known for her public criticism of deposed premier Thaksin Shinawatra. 2006 Thai Coup D'état
The 2006 Thai ''coup d'état'' took place on 19 September 2006, when the Royal Thai Army staged a ''coup d'état'' against the elected caretaker government of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The ''coup d'état'', which was Thailand's first non-constitutional change of government in fifteen years since the 1991 Thai coup d'état, followed a year-long political crisis involving Thaksin, his allies, and political opponents and occurred less than a month before nationwide House elections were scheduled to be held. It has been widely reported in Thailand and elsewhere that General Prem Tinsulanonda, key person in military-monarchy nexus, Chairman of the Privy Council, was the mastermind of the coup. Council For Democratic Reform
The Council for National Security ( th, คณะมนตรีความมั่นคงแห่งชาติ; ) or CNS ( th, คมช.), formerly known as the Council for Democratic Reform ( th, คณะปฏิรูปการปกครองในระบอบประชาธิปไตยอันมีพระมหากษัตริย์ทรงเป็นประมุข; ) or CDR ( th, คปค.), was the military junta that governed Thailand after staging a coup d'état against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Politics Of Thailand
Until 22 May 2014, the politics of Thailand were conducted within the framework of a constitutional monarchy, whereby the prime minister is the head of government and a hereditary monarch is head of state. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislative branches. Following the coup d'état of 22 May 2014 revoking the 2007 constitution, a military organization called National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) had taken over administration. The chief of NCPO abolished the national assembly and assumed the responsibilities of the legislative branch. Under the martial law enforced throughout the kingdom, military courts have been tasked to be responsible for some cases that are normally under the civilian courts. However, the court system, including the Constitutional Court, still remains in existence, even without the constitution. Khun Ying Potjaman Na Pombejra ( th, พจมาน ณ ป้อมเพชร; ), formerly Potjaman Shinawatra ( th, พจมาน ชินวัตร; ), née Soypetpotjaman Damapong ( th, สร้อยเพชรพจมาน ดามาพงศ์; ) (born 22 November 1956) is the ex-wife of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Early life and family Potjaman was the youngest child and only daughter of Potjanee Na Pombejra and her husband Samoe Damapong, a police general who excelled in his work on crime suppression and investigation and became a Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police. Samoe Damapong came from a family of Lao origin; his paternal grandfather was an Isan Lao from Nong Khai while his maternal grandmother was a princess of the Na Champassak family. Banjerd Singkaneti ( th, บรรเจิด สิงคะเนติ; ) (born, 11 February 1964) is a Thai legal scholar, a lecturer of law at Thammasat University and a noted critic of Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Education and early career Banjerd completed an LL.B. at Bangkok's Ramkhamhaeng University. He received an LL.M. in public law from Thammasat University, followed by a Magister Legum (LL.M.) Doktors der Rechte (Dr.jur.) from Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Germany.
