Asmaløy
Asmaløy is an island in Hvaler municipality of Viken county, Norway. Asmaløy is one of the larger islands in the archipelago of Hvaler which consists of over 800 islands, islets, skerries and reefs located in the outer Oslofjord. Hvaler tunnel () joins Asmaløy with Kirkeøy, the largest island in the municipality and the site of the administrative centre at Skjærhalden. Hvaler tunnel is an underwater tunnel on Highway 108 (''Rv108''). The tunnel goes under the strait between Asmaløy and Kirkeøy. The long tunnel was opened on 2 October 1989. Hvaler tunnel is closed to pedestrians and cyclists. Vikerhavn is a small fishing harbour and village on the southern part of the island. Hvaler
Hvaler is a municipality that is a group of islands in the southern part of Viken County, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Skjærhalden, on the island of Kirkeøy. The only police station in the municipality is located in Skjærhalden. Hvaler was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see ''formannskapsdistrikt''). Name The name is the plural form of ''hval'', which means "whale". The form and shape of the islands resemble a pod of whales. Prior to 1889, the name was spelled Hvaløerne, meaning the whale isles. Coat-of-arms The coat-of-arms is from modern times. It was granted on 9 December 1983. The arms show a silver-colored boat on a blue background. This boat is the type that was typical in the 13th century. Viken (county)
Viken is a county under disestablishment in Eastern Norway that was established on 1 January 2020 by the merger of Akershus, Buskerud and Østfold with the addition of three other municipalities. Viken was controversial from the onset, with an approval rating of about 20% in the region, and the merger was resisted by all the three counties. Viken has been compared to gerrymandering. The county executive of Viken determined in 2019, before the merger had taken effect, that the county's disestablishment is its main political goal, and the formal process to dissolve Viken was initiated by the county executive in right after the 2021 Norwegian parliamentary election in which parties seeking to reverse the merger won a majority. Hvaler Tunnel
The Hvaler Tunnel ( no, Hvalertunnelen) is a subsea road tunnel which connects the island of Kirkøy to the rest of Hvaler in Viken county, Norway. The tunnel opened in 1989 and is long and deep with an incline of 10% at its steepest point, located on Norwegian County Road 108. Johan Borgen
Johan Collett Müller Borgen (28 April 1902 – 16 October 1979) was a Norwegian writer, journalist and critic. His best-known work is the novel ''Lillelord'' for which he was awarded the Norwegian Critics Prize for Literature in 1955. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1966. Tisler
Tisler is a small island in southeast Norway. The name of the island comes from the Norse word for thistle, þistill', or tistel' in Norwegian, coming from the round shape of the thistle's pericarp. Tisler is among the southernmost of the Hvaler islands, which form a municipality in Østfold. Tisler is one of the last islands before you reach Sweden and Skagerrak.
