Aslan-Hussein Khan I or Aslan ibn Shahmardan (1781—1836) was the Khan (title), khan (governor) of the Gazikumukh Khanate, Gazikumukh (Kura Khanate, Kura) Khanate from 1820 to 1836 and the khan of the Avar Khanate from 1827 to 1828. Biography Early years He was born in 1781 in Kumukh to Shahmardan (Shaykh Mardan) bek, second son of Muhammad Khan of Gazikumukh; who detested his half-brother Surkhay II, Surkhay because of their father's love towards him, as his mother was not from a noble family. Fath-Ali Khan of Quba, Fatali Khan of Quba used this rivalry between brothers, granting Shaykh Mardan a part of a Kura district up to Kabirek, which earlier belonged to Derbent Khanate, and revenues of Guney district that belonged Quba Khanate, Quba in 1776. Shaykh Mardan's death - which according to Russian historian Komarov, happened not later than Fatali's - was perfect ground for Surkhay to invade Kura Khanate, Kura plain and depose his minor nephews. Kura Khanate
Kura Khanate (, ) or Kürin Khanate was a state entity that existed from 1812 to 1864 in southern Dagestan. The khanate was ruled by a branch of ruling family of Gazikumukh Khanate. Geography The Kura Khanate was located mainly in the historical and geographical region of ''Kura''. It was located in nowadays Agulsky, Kurakhsky and Suleiman-Stalsky districts of Dagestan, Russia. In the south, the borders of the Kura Khanate extended to Quba Khanate along the direction of the Samur River. In the southwest, the khanate bordered on the top of the Samur ridge with the Akhty-para, Alty-para free societies, as well as the Rutul Federation. In the west and north, the Kura Khanate bordered on Gazikumukh, in the northeast with the Principality of Tabasaran. In the east, the khanate bordered on the Derbent Khanate.
