Asian American Federation Of New York
The Asian American Federation is a nonprofit organization working to advance the civic voice of Asian Americans in the New York metropolitan area. Established in 1989, the Asian American Federation of NY supports and collaborates with 70 member and partner agencies to improve quality of life and support philanthropy in the Asian American community. Organizations with which the Asian American Federation of New York works include Asian Americans for Equality, the Chinese-American Planning Council, MinKwon Center for Community Action, and the New York Asian Women's Center. In 2007, the Asian American Federation of New York won a National Leadership in Action Award from the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. Asian Americans are Americans of Asian ancestry (including naturalized Americans who are immigrants from specific regions in Asia and descendants of such immigrants). Asian Americans For Equality
Asian Americans for Equality (AAFE) is an organization based in Chinatown, Manhattan that advocates for civil rights and affordable housing, which it is also involved in developing. History Asian Americans for Equal Employment was formed in 1974 after a successful fight to include Chinese American workers in the construction of Confucius Plaza. It was involved in protests the following year after Peter Yew, an engineer, was beaten by police in Chinatown. 20,000 picketers went to the New York City Hall under AAFE's leadership. Again in 1982 after the Killing of Vincent Chin in Detroit. AAFE was involved in protesting prison construction and the Special Manhattan Bridge District. MinKwon Center For Community Action
The MinKwon Center for Community Action is a nonprofit organization that serves the needs of the Korean American community in New York City. First established as YKASEC in 1984, the MinKwon Center is based in Flushing, Queens, which has a large Korean population. MinKwon focuses in particular on reaching marginalized community members, such as the elderly, recent immigrants, low-income residents, and residents with limited English proficiency. The MinKwon Center educates and provides services to its members through its primary program areas, which are community organizing and advocacy, social services, civic participation, youth empowerment and cultural education.
