Ashton is an unincorporated community in Walton Township, Sumner County, Kansas, United States. It is located about halfway between South Haven and Arkansas City at 1.75 miles north of the intersection of S Rock Rd and U.S. Route 166, which is 5.5 miles east of I-35 (Kansas Turnpike), next to an abandoned railroad. History Ashton was a station on the Kansas Southwestern Railway that previously passed through the community, east to west, from Geuda Springs to South Haven. A post office was opened in Ashton in 1887, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1971. History South Haven was founded in 1872, and was named after South Haven, Michigan. The railroad reached South Haven in 1879. Geuda Springs is a city in Cowley and Sumner counties in the U.S. state of Kansas. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 158. History On the line between Cowley and Sumner counties is a remarkable group of salt springs that put out 100 to 450 gallons each per hour and have been known since the earliest settlement of that region. These springs are on a branch of the St. Louis & San Francisco railroad, a little to the north of the town of Geuda Springs and about from Arkansas City. The waters from these springs infiltrate the waters of the nearby creeks. A lake formed by the creek near these springs has been greatly enlarged by damming the creek and now covers about , making it the largest body of salt water in the state.
