Ashish Kumar was a renowned film actor and director of Hindi and Bengali films. He is best remembered for his leading roles in ''Raja Harishchandra'' (1979), ''Jai Santoshi Maa'' (1975) and ''Jai Dwarkadheesh'' (1977) and has played the roles of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu in several mythological films. Biography Early career Ashish Kumar began his career in Bengali films before making his mark in Hindi films, mainly of the mythological genre. Golden era His golden era was during the sixties and seventies. The landmark film ''Jai Santoshi Maa'' (1975) was a blockbuster in every sense, emerging as a national craze. Personal life Ashish Kumar married Bela Bose, his co-actor in a few films, and has a daughter and a son. He died on 23 November 2013 in Goa, India. Jai Santoshi Maa
''Jai Santoshi Maa'' is a 1975 Indian Hindi-language devotional film directed by Vijay Sharma and written R. Priyadarshi. Santoshī Mā (also called Santoshi Mata) is the goddess of satisfaction. Usha Mangeshkar, sang the devotional songs for the film along with Mahendra Kapoor and the famous poet Kavi Pradeep, who wrote the lyrics of the songs. Made on a low-budget, the film became one of the most successful films at the box office. Bela Bose
Bela Bose is an Indian dancer and actress who was active in Hindi films during the 1960s and 70s. Early life Bela Bose was born in Calcutta in a well-to-do family. Her father was a cloth merchant and her mother was a homemaker. Following a bank crash that wiped out their fortune, the family relocated to Bombay in 1951. She started her career as a schoolgirl as a group dancer in films to help support her family after her father's death in a road accident. She picked up more films after she finished her schooling. Career Bela Bose began to receive independent credit from the late 1950s. Her big break came when she was asked to do a dance number with Raj Kapoor in ''Main Nashe Mein Hoon'', released in 1959.
