Ashique Kuruniyan
Muhammed Ashique Kuruniyan (born 14 June 1997) is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a winger for Indian Super League club Mohun Bagan SG and the India national team. Club career Early life and youth career Born in Malappuram, Kerala, Kuruniyan was the fifth child to a father who owned a shop and a mother who was a housewife. In order to help support his family, Kuruniyan dropped out of school when he was in the eighth standard and began work in his father's sugarcane shop. When he finished his work in the evening, he would play football in the fields. He was soon selected by Vision India, a scheme started by the Kerala Football Association, and was with the academy until 2014, when he joined the academy of then I-League club, Pune. I-League
The I-League (known as Hero I-League for sponsorship ties with Hero MotoCorp) is the second-tier men's professional football competition of the Indian football league system. It is currently contested by 12 clubs across the country with the winners getting promotion to play in the premier division, the Indian Super League. The competition was founded in 2007 as the successor to the National Football League, with the first season starting in November 2007. The 2019–20 Indian Super League playoffs was sixth playoffs series in the Indian Super League, one of the top Indian professional football leagues. 2018–19 Indian Super League Season
The 2018–19 Indian Super League season was the fifth season of the Indian Super League, one of the top Indian professional football leagues. It was established in 2013. The regular season began on 29 September 2018 and concluded on 17 March 2019. The league took a mid-season break for around one month from 17 December 2018 to early January 2019 due to India's participation in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. Chennaiyin were the defending champions, having defeated Bengaluru in the 2018 final, however they did not qualify for the playoffs having finished the last in the regular season.
