Asheboro High School
Asheboro High School is a public high school in the Asheboro City Schools system of Asheboro, North Carolina. Overview Asheboro High School graduated its first class of three graduates in 1905. In 1950, it moved to its current location on Park Street, where it still stands today. A major addition to the gymnasium was made in 1980 and further renovations made in the early 1990s. The recent annexation of the Sir Robert Motel has expanded space for classes (nicknamed the Comet Corner). The high school has recently expanded to an off-site campus for around 100 students at the North Carolina Zoo. Asheboro underwent another expansion project that was completed in May 2020. Asheboro High School is the only high school in the Asheboro City Schools District. The student body consists of approximately 1,300 students. Randy Henderson (politician)
Randall Paul Henderson Jr. (born August 3, 1956) is an American real estate broker and politician who was Mayor of the City of Fort Myers, Florida from 2009 to 2020. Early years Randy was born and raised in North Carolina. He graduated from Asheboro High School in 1975, playing football, baseball, and basketball. He was named most outstanding football player in 1974 (known as Mr. Blue Comet), and his 1975 baseball team won the WNCHSAA state championship. He would later be inducted in the Asheboro High School hall of fame in 2011. Randy attended Mars Hill College with an athletic scholarship, where he played football and was a four-year letterman for the baseball team. He graduated in 1979 with a BS in business administration. Joe Spinks
Joseph S. Spinks (born June 20, 1972) is an American-Dutch retired basketball player and coach. He played eight seasons for ABC Amsterdam in the Netherlands and is considered one of the best players to have played in the Eredivisie. Spinks also was head coach and assistant coach for Amsterdam for two years. Spink's nickname during his playing career was "The Bull". College career Spinks played for Cambell from 1990 to 1994, and helped the Fighting Camels to their first-ever NCAA tournament berth in 1994. Canadian Football Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Football Hall of Fame (CFHOF) is a not-for-profit corporation, located in Hamilton, Ontario, that celebrates great achievements in Canadian football. It is maintained by the Canadian Football League (CFL). It includes displays about the CFL, Canadian university football and Canadian junior football history. The Hall previously had a main feature in the central portion of the museum where inducted members, each with a metal bust depicting their head, were displayed prior to the physical building being closed. There were also featured displays that highlight each CFL team's history, and an interactive Field goal kicking exhibit. Red O'Quinn
John William "Red" O'Quinn (September 7, 1925 – April 21, 2002) was a gridiron football end. Early years John William "Red" O'Quinn, Jr. was born in Bluett Falls, North Carolina. He graduated from Asheboro High School in Asheboro, North Carolina in 1943 and was inducted in the AHS Hall of Fame in 2004. O'Quinn played college football at Wake Forest University between 1946 and 1949. He was a star receiver, with 1974 career yards, his best year being 1948, when he led the nation with 39 catches for 605 yards and seven touchdowns. He was inducted into the Wake Forest University's Sports Hall of Fame in 1975. Professional career NFL O'Quinn was drafted by the National Football League's Chicago Bears in the 1949 NFL Draft, in the third round, 31st overall.
