Ashburton (ward)
Ashburton was a ward in the London Borough of Croydon, in London in the United Kingdom. The ward covered the Ashburton area, as well as covering the main retail area of Addiscombe, the Stroud Green, Tollgate and Longheath Garden estates, and large parts of northern Shirley. The population of the ward at the 2011 Census was 14,721. The ward formed part of the Croydon Central constituency, which is one of the most marginal in the country, 165 votes separating the Conservatives and Labour at the 2015 General Election. The ward returned three councillors every four years to Croydon Council. At the 2014 London local elections Maddie Henson, Stephen Mann, and Andrew Rendle were elected to the council achieving a 9% swing. All of them were running as Labour Party candidates. The London Borough of Croydon () is a London borough in south London, part of Outer London. It covers an area of . It is the southernmost borough of London. Oasis Academy Shirley Park
Oasis Academy Shirley Park (formerly Ashburton Community School) is a mixed all-through school located within the Ashburton Learning Village complex in the Woodside area of Croydon, Greater London, England. The school educates children of primary and secondary school age, and also has a sixth form. It is based on three sites: Shirley Road, Long Lane, Stroud Green. Originally two schools, Ashburton Secondary Modern Boys and Ashburton Secondary Modern Girls, which merged in 1971 to become Ashburton High School. At a later date, the school became Ashburton Community School and became an Academy in 2009 and was renamed Oasis Academy Shirley Park. The school is sponsored by the Oasis Trust. The academy has a partnership with local English Premier League-club Crystal Palace dating back to the former Community School. Tramlink
London Trams, previously Tramlink and Croydon Tramlink, is a light rail tram system serving Croydon and surrounding areas in South London, England. It began operation in 2000, the first tram system in the London region since 1952. It is managed by London Trams, a public body part of Transport for London (TfL), and has been operated by FirstGroup since 2017. Tramlink is one of two light rail networks in Greater London, the other being the Docklands Light Railway. The network consists of 39 stops along of track, on a mixture of street track shared with other traffic, dedicated track in public roads, and off-street track consisting of new rights-of-way, former railway lines, and one right-of-way where the Tramlink track runs parallel to a third rail-electrified Network Rail line. Woodside Tram Stop
Woodside tram stop is a light rail stop situated between Woodside Green and Ashburton Park in the London Borough of Croydon in the southern suburbs of London. The stop is located on the site of the former Woodside railway station (London), Woodside railway station of the Woodside and South Croydon Railway; the old station buildings survive, though not used by Tramlink. The tram stop has a platform on each side of the track with access to both platforms by stairs on the west side of the station building and by ramps on the east side. Services Woodside is served by tram services operated by Tramlink. The tram stop is served by trams every 5 minutes between and Arena tram stop (Croydon), Arena, with trams continuing alternately to either or every 10 minutes. Ashburton Park
Ashburton Park is a park located in Woodside, in the London Borough of Croydon, and takes its name from nearby Ashburton. The park is located close to Woodside tram stop, where Tramlink services the park. It is on the junction of Lower Addiscombe Road and Spring Lane. The park covers an area of and includes a village green, pétanque terrain, bowling green, tennis and basketball courts and a café. History The site was once the location of Woodside Convent, and the property has changed hands many times since then. A mansion was built on the site in 1788. Croydon Corporation bought the house and grounds by Compulsory Purchase Order in 1924. Most of the buildings were torn down, with a putting green (no longer there) being laid on the site. The only remaining part of the house was the c. 1878 extension which became Ashburton Library.
