Ashante Johnson
Ashante D. Johnson (born May 12, 1976) is an American former professional basketball player who played the majority of his 10-year career in Europe. College career After graduating from San Diego's Scripps Ranch High School in 1995, Johnson joined the Utah Utes men's basketball team where he redshirted the 1995–96. He played out his freshman season at Utah in 1996–97 before transferring to Cañada College in Redwood City, California, for his sophomore season in 1997–98. After averaging 23 points and 14 rebounds per game as a sophomore, Johnson transferred to Kansas where he played out his junior and senior seasons. Professional career Johnson went undrafted in the 2000 NBA draft. In August 2000, he signed a one-year deal with JDA Dijon Basket of the LNB Pro A. After a disappointing start to the season, he was released by the club in late 2000. In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. The Japan Basketball League (JBL) was a professional basketball league in Japan. It made up the top-tier of basketball in Japan alongside the bj league, Japan's other basketball competition, with no promotion and relegation between bj and the JBL. The JBL was composed of two divisions, the JBL (Division 1, formerly ''JBL Super League'') and the JBL2 (Division 2, formerly ''Japan League''). Maurice Lamar Whitfield (born March 29, 1973) is a former American-born Czech professional basketball player. He played at the point guard position. Professional career Whitfield played several seasons in Nymburk, leading the team to the Czech Championship. He played for Ural Great Perm of the Russian Super League. United States Basketball League
The United States Basketball League (USBL) was a professional men's spring basketball league. The league was formed in 1985 and ceased operations in 2008. The USBL started in 1985 as one of the first basketball leagues to play a late-spring to early-summer schedule. The league quickly became known as a development league for players, with many players moving up to the National Basketball Association, NBA and many more playing in Europe after stints here. In 1996, the league made a stock offering, a rarity among sports leagues. However, in later years, the league declined as rival leagues appeared and USBL had a tougher time replacing teams that folded. In the last two seasons, the league was mainly a midwestern league, with teams mainly in Kansas, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. The American Basketball Association (ABA) is an American semi-professional men's basketball minor league that was founded in 1999. The ABA has teams based in the United States and previously had international teams based in Canada and Mexico. In the past, there were traveling teams from countries such as Australia and Japan who played in the ABA. The LNB Pro A, currently known for sponsorship reasons as Betclic Élite, is the top-tier men's professional basketball league in France. The competition has existed since 1921. Since 1987, the Ligue Nationale de Basket has governed the league. The bottom two placed teams from each season are relegated to the second tier level Pro B. The winner of the play-offs of the Pro A is crowned the French national champion. Competition format All 16 Pro A League teams play each other twice during the regular season.
