Ash K. Prakash D.F.A., is a philanthropist and scholar of Canadian art. Career After completing his studies at the University of California and the University of Michigan, and later Harvard, Ash Prakash emigrated to Canada in 1968, settling in Ottawa by 1970. Here he worked in the federal government of Canada for 25 years, becoming the Executive Director and Principal Advisor on Information Management to the Queen's Privy Council for Canada and the Office of the Prime Minister (Canada) as well as serving in the Office of the Leader of Government in the House of Commons and Royal Commissions of Inquiry. He also advised the Canada Council for the Arts, the Canadian Broadcasting Company in Ottawa; UNESCO in Paris, Teheran and New Delhi; and the United Nations Development Program in New York and Cairo. James Rutka
James Rutka (born January 14, 1956) is a Canadian neurosurgeon from Toronto, Canada. Rutka served as RS McLaughlin Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto from 2011 – 2022. He subspecializes in pediatric neurosurgery at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), and is a Senior Scientist in the Research Institute at SickKids. His main clinical interests include the neurosurgical treatment of children with brain tumours and epilepsy. His research interests lie in the molecular biology of human brain tumours – specifically in the determination of the mechanisms by which brain tumours grow and invade. Meric Slover Gertler is a Canadian academic, who is the 16th and current president of the University of Toronto since 2013. Previously, he served as dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science at the university from 2008 to 2013. Gertler is an urban theorist and geographer. Life and career Gertler was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and grew up in several cities in Southern Ontario. Gertler completed his undergraduate education at McMaster University, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1977. James Wilson Morrice
James Wilson Morrice (August 10, 1865 – January 23, 1924) was one of the first Canadian landscape painters to be known internationally. He studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, France, where he lived for most of his career. James Morrice Street in New Bordeaux, Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Montreal is named in his memory. Biography Morrice was born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of a merchant, and studied law in Toronto from 1882 to 1889. In 1890 he left to study painting in England. The next year he arrived in Paris, where he studied at the Académie Julian from 1892 to 1897. At the Académie Julian, he befriended Charles Conder and Maurice Prendergast, and also met Robert Henri. He then took lessons at the atelier of Henri Harpignies, who encouraged his students to paint en plein air.
