Aseri Laing
Aseri Laing (born 6 May 1975), is a Fijian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1990s. He played for the Western Suburbs Magpies from 1993–94 and 1996–98 and then the Melbourne Storm in 1999. Early life Born in Mt Albert, New Zealand to Fijian parents, Laing played his junior rugby league with Campbelltown City Kangaroos. Playing career Joining Western Suburbs Magpies, playing in under age and reserve grade competitions, before making his first grade debut in 1994. Laing had a year off from rugby league in 1995, resuming his career with Wests in 1996. In the 1998 NRL season, he made a career-high 20 appearances in first grade. Leaving Wests after the 1998 season, he joined Melbourne Storm, making a further five first grade appearances, scoring one try. Mount Albert, New Zealand
Mount Albert is an inner suburb of Auckland, New Zealand, which is centred on Ōwairaka / Mount Albert, a local volcanic peak which dominates the landscape. In the past Mt Albert also referred to the 2,500 acre borough that was created in 1911 on the outskirts of Auckland City. Mt Albert was also one of the original five wards within the Mt Albert Borough. The suburb is located seven kilometres to the southwest of the Auckland CBD, Central Business District (CBD). Western Suburbs Magpies
The Western Suburbs Magpies (legal name: Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club Ltd) are an Australian rugby league football club based in the western suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales. Formed in 1908, Wests, as they are commonly referred to, were one of the nine foundation clubs of the first New South Wales Rugby League competition in Australia. The club, as a sole entity, departed the top-flight competition in 1999 after forming a 50–50 joint venture with Balmain Tigers to form the Wests Tigers. Melbourne Storm
The Melbourne Storm are a rugby league club based in Melbourne, Victoria in Australia that participates in the National Rugby League. The first fully professional rugby league team based in the state, the Storm entered the competition in 1998. The Storm were originally a Super League initiative, created in 1997 during the Super League war, however, following the Super League collapse, the team became a part of the newly formed, united competition. The club play their home games at AAMI Park. The Storm have won four premierships since their inception, in 1999, 2012, 2017 and 2020, and have contested several more grand finals, but were stripped of the 2007 and 2009 premierships following salary cap breaches. The Fiji national rugby league team, nicknamed the Bati (pronounced ), has been participating in international rugby league football since 1992. The team is controlled by the governing body for rugby league in Fiji, Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL), which is currently a member of the Asia-Pacific Rugby League Confederation (APRLC).
