Ascot is a suburb of Perth, covering a narrow strip of land along the southern bank of the Swan River approximately east of the Perth central business district. Its local government area is the City of Belmont. The suburb, which was previously part of Belmont and Redcliffe, was officially established on 7 March 1991, with the boundaries being approved on 22 March 1991. It was named after the Ascot Racecourse, a major horse-racing track located within the suburb's boundaries. Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Ron Courtney Island
Ron Courtney Island is a small uninhabited manmade river island in the Swan River, located in the suburb of Ascot in Perth, Western Australia. It was named in honour of the first chairman of the Swan River Conservation Board, which was formed in 1959. The island was formed in 1969 after a channel was cut through Garvey Park in an effort to alleviate the erosion caused by the flow of the Swan River. It has a stand of flooded gum and a fringing community of shorerush and lake club rush. The understorey is predominantly exotic grass species which gives the island a parkland character. It is one of only four islands in the lower Swan River, the others being Kuljak Island, Heirisson Island and the island in Elizabeth Quay. Ascot Water Playground
The Ascot Water Playground was a recreation facility in Ascot, Western Australia. Built in 1975 under the Labor government's Red Scheme for the long-term unemployed, it was officially opened in November 1977 at a cost of . The complex had pools, water slides, and mini-golf. Ascot Brick Works
The Ascot Brick Works is a heritage listed former brick works located in Ascot, Western Australia. The brick works were constructed between 1929 and 1950 and used by Bristile until they ceased operations at the site in 1982. History Pottery works were established at the site on Grandstand Road opposite Ascot Racecourse in 1910 by Piercy and Pitman. This company was taken over in 1930 by H L Brisbane & Co. At the time of the takeover by H L Brisbane & Co, the site had two kilns fired by wood and coal. In 1934, two new kilns were built by Ernie Banks at the site, followed by additions to the pipe and tile factories. In 1938, the business became H L Brisbane & Wunderlich Ltd. During the 1950s, extensions were carried out to the pipe and tile factories. Abernethy Road is a long minor arterial road linking Belmont with the Great Eastern Highway Bypass in Hazelmere, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It runs along the eastern boundary of the Perth Airport area. It serves as an alternative access road for Perth Airport (via Grogan Road), and provides the foothills suburbs with alternative access to the Perth central business district. Ascot Racecourse is the major racecourse in Perth, Western Australia, situated approximately east of the Perth central business district, with the headquarters of the Perth Racing positioned directly opposite. It is regarded as the "grand old lady" of Australian racecourses.
