Ascension Cathedral, Almaty
The Ascension Cathedral (russian: Вознесенский собор ''Vosnesenskiy sobor'', kk, Вознесенск кафедралы шіркеуі ''Voznesensk kafedraly shirkeýi''), also known as Zenkov Cathedral, is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located in Panfilov Park in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Completed in 1907, the cathedral is made out owood but without nails Its height is 56 meters tall, and is claimed to be the second tallest wooden building in the world. History In the late 19th century the first bishops of the Turkistan eparchy discussed the need for a Russian Orthodox Church in Almaty. On September 26, 1903, the bishop of Turkestan and Tashkent, Paisii (Vinogradov) consecrated the foundation of the church. Construction took place between 1904 and 1907. The belfry was erected on September 14, 1906. Ascension Cathedral, Novocherkassk
The Ascension Cathedral (Вознесенский собор) is a Russian Orthodox church in Novocherkassk, Rostov Oblast, Russia. It used to be one of the largest churches of the Russian Empire and the main church of the Don Host Province. The five-domed building, which stands 75 meters tall, is a notable example of the Russian Neo-Byzantine architecture. It was erected between 1891 and 1904 on the site of an earlier church. The first church on the site was built to Luigi Rusca's designs. It collapsed in 1846. A replacement church collapsed 17 years later. The existing church building was designed by a local architect, Alexander Yashchenko, and dedicated in 1905. The worshipers were expelled from the church by the Communists in 1934. The Orthodox congregation resumed services in the upper church in 1942, after the Communists had been ousted from the Don Region by the Wehrmacht. The Ascension Cathedral ( ro, Catedrala înălțarea Domnului or Catedrala romano-catolică Înălțarea Domnului) also called Roman Catholic Cathedral of the Ascension. It is the name given to a religious building belonging to the Catholic Church and serves as the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Satu Mare, diocese of Satu Mare. It is located in the city of Satu Mare, in the northern part of Romania. The Satu Mare cathedral was built between 1830 and 1837 according to plans by József Hilda, using parts of the former baroque cathedral (built in 1786). History The original community, formed in 1917, worshiped in a rented hall until it built the first Greek Orthodox church in the East Bay (San Francisco Bay Area), East Bay. The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church (in Greek, ''Κοίμησις τῆς Θεοτόκου''), opened on May 21, 1921, on Brush Street in Downtown Oakland. Ascension Convent, known as the Starodevichy Convent or Old Maidens' Convent until 1817 (russian: Вознесенский монастырь, ''Voznesensky monastyr''), was an Orthodox nunnery in the Moscow Kremlin which contained the burials of grand princesses, tsarinas, and other noble ladies from the Muscovite royal court. It is believed that Ascension Convent was founded in 1389 next to the Spasskaya Tower, Saviour Gates of the Kremlin by Dmitry Donskoy's widow, Eudoxia Dmitriyevna, who would take the veil there. The foundation stone for the cathedral was laid in 1407, just before her death. Eight years later, the cathedral was gutted by fire and then rebuilt in 1467 by princess Maria of Borovsk, wife of Vasili II of Russia. The Ascension of the Lord Cathedral ( ro, Catedrala Înălţarea Domnului) is a Romanian Orthodox cathedral in Târgu Mureş, Romania. It was built between 1925 and 1934 on the initiative of Archpriest Ştefan Rusu. As the seat of an archpriest and not a bishop, it is a church and not technically a cathedral, but is commonly referred to as such. The Cathedral's cornerstone was laid on May 10, 1925, an event witnessed by, among others, the Minister of Religious Affairs, Alexandru Lapedatu, Bishop Nicolae Ivan, and Octavian Goga, who was a government minister at the time. The cathedral was built according to the plans of architect Victor Vlad of the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, in the form of a Greek cross. The total cost of the building was estimated at 20 million lei. The Patriarchal Cathedral of the Holy Ascension of the Lord ( bg, Патриаршеска катедрала „Свето Възнесение Господне“, ''Patriarsheska katedrala „Sveto Vaznesenie Gospodne“'') is a former Eastern Orthodox cathedral in the city of Veliko Tarnovo, in north central Bulgaria. Located on top of the fortified Tsarevets hill in the former capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire, the cathedral was the seat of the Bulgarian patriarch from its construction in the 11th–12th century to its destruction in 1393. Standing on top of a late Roman church, the cathedral, reconstructed in the 1970s and 1980s, follows a cross-domed plan with a bell tower and a triple apse. Richly decorated on both the exterior and interior, its internal walls now feature modern frescoes, the presence of which has meant that it has not been reconsecrated.
