Asaba Declaration
The Asaba Declaration was a declaration issued by the 17 Southern governors in Nigeria, comprising South West (Nigeria), South West, South South and South East (Nigeria), South East. It was issued on 11 May 2021 in Asaba, Delta, Asaba, Delta State, Nigeria and consisted of eleven points in which the governors raised key issues about the future of Nigeria and the Southern region. They called for national dialogue and placed a ban on open grazing and the movement of cattle by foot into and within the Southern region due to the ongoing Herder–farmer conflicts in Nigeria. South West (Nigeria)
The South West (often hyphenated to the South-West) is the one of the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria representing both a geographic and political region of the country's southwest. It comprises six states – Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo. The zone stretches along the Atlantic seaboard from the international border with Benin Republic in the west to the South South in the east with the North Central to the north. The South West is split with the Central African mangroves in the coastal far south while the major inland ecoregions are the Nigerian lowland forests ecoregion in the south and east along with the Guinean forest–savanna mosaic ecoregion in the drier northwest. The president of the Nigerian Senate is the presiding officer of the Senate of Nigeria, elected by its membership. ''The Nation'' is a daily newspaper published in Lagos, Nigeria. According to a 2009 survey it was the second-most-read newspaper in Nigeria, and this result was repeated in a 2011 report by The Advertisers' Association of Nigeria (ADVANS). The paper's website says it stands for freedom, justice and the market economy. Its target audience is the business and political elite, the affluent, the educated and the upwardly mobile. Usman Yusuf
Usman Yusuf is a Nigerian professor of haematology-oncology and bone marrow transplantation and an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University and has practiced medicine across three continents – Africa, Europe and North America – after his MBBS in 1982. He was appointed the executive secretary / chief executive officer of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in August 2016 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
