Arwin Records
Arwin Records was an American label that operated from the late-1950s to mid-1960s. Artists to have releases on the label include Dave Barbour and his Orchestra Hadda Brooks, Mel Carter, The Cascades (band), The Cascades, Doris Day, Jan & Arnie, David Lucas (composer), David Lucas and Billy Watkins (musician), Billy Watkins. Background The label was headquartered in Beverley Hills. The label along with Daywin Music and Artist Music were a division of Arwin Productions, owned by Doris Day and Marty Melcher. In October 1959, it was reported by ''The Billboard (magazine), The Billboard'' that the head of the label, Marty Melcher was getting ready to expand the label into a full line. That included the regular releases of record singles and a packaged goods line. Martin Melcher
Martin Melcher (August 1, 1915 – April 20, 1968) was an American motion picture and music executive. He was married to popular singer and actress Doris Day, with whom he owned a series of business ventures named Arwin. Melcher produced several films in the 1950s and 1960s through the independent film production company Arwin Productions, released music through the record label Arwin Records, and published music through the music publishing companies Arwin Music and Daywin Music, Mart Music and Artists Music. He also was the president of Kirk Douglas' music publishing company, Peter Vincent Music. Early life Melcher was born in North Adams, Massachusetts, to Jewish parents Minnie (Gabriner) and Alter Melcher. He began his career as a song plugger while married to his first wife, singer Jane Rappaport, in New York. Dave Barbour And His Orchestra
David Michael Barbour (May 28, 1912 – December 11, 1965) was an American jazz guitarist. He was married to singer Peggy Lee and was her co-writer, accompanist, and bandleader. Biography Barbour was born in Long Island, New York, Long Island, New York, United States. When Barbour was twelve, he played banjo at Carnegie Hall. He started his career as a banjoist with Adrian Rollini in 1933 and then Wingy Manone in 1934. He switched to guitar in the middle of the decade and played with Red Norvo from 1935 to 1936. He found much work as a studio musician and in ensembles with Teddy Wilson and Billie Holiday (1937), Artie Shaw (1939), Lennie Hayton, Charlie Barnet (1945), Raymond Scott, Glenn Miller, Lou Holden, and Woody Herman (1949). He also recorded with André Previn in 1945. While a member of Benny Goodman's orchestra in 1942, Barbour fell in love with lead singer Peggy Lee.
