Welsh ( or ) is a Celtic language family, Celtic language of the Brittonic languages, Brittonic subgroup that is native to the Welsh people. Arwel Hughes
Arwel Hughes OBE (25 August 1909 – 23 September 1988) was a Welsh orchestral conductor and composer. Life and career Hughes was born in Rhosllannerchrugog near Wrexham and was educated at Ruabon Grammar School and at the Royal College of Music, where he studied with Ralph Vaughan Williams and C. H. Kitson. Following his studies at the RCM he became organist at the church of St Philip and St James, Oxford, and in 1935 returned to Wales to join the staff of the BBC's music department. His duties included a great deal of conducting, and he used his position to champion the music of compatriots such as Grace Williams, David Wynne, and Alun Hoddinott; arguably to the detriment of his own musical legacy as a composer, though as a part of his role he was also called upon to compose, arrange and orchestrate music for live radio broadcasts. Arwel Wyn Richards (born 25 January 1982 in Carmarthen) is a Welsh businessman and columnist contributing articles on cars and style. He has been involved in the Welsh polo scene since 2006. Working with the St. Davids Polo and Racing Club, Wales' only polo club, as tournament director, Richards hosted a beach polo day in Swansea Bay in August 2009. Arwel Camber Thomas (born 8 November 1974) is a native of Trebanos in Swansea Valley. He is a former Wales international rugby union player. An outside-half, he played his club rugby for Swansea RFC. Career Arwel Thomas won his first of his 23 caps against Italy in 1996 when he replaced the injured Neil Jenkins. He played club rugby for Swansea for seven years, scoring 1963 points including 40 tries. He turned down an offer to join Toulouse in 1999, and in 2005 he returned to Neath. In 2008 he announced his retirement from rugby after the 2008 Konica Minolta Cup final against Pontypridd () (colloquially: Ponty) is a town and a community in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Owain Arwel Hughes Order of the British Empire, CBE (born 21 March 1942) is a Welsh people, Welsh orchestral conductor. Hughes was born in Ton Pentre, Rhondda, the son of the composer Arwel Hughes. He studied at Howardian High School, Cardiff, Cardiff University, University College, Cardiff and the Royal College of Music. He studied conducting under Adrian Boult, Sir Adrian Boult, Bernard Haitink and Rudolf Kempe.
