Arvada West High School
Arvada West High School, nicknamed A-West, is a public secondary school in Arvada, Colorado, United States. Opened in 1963, it is one of four high schools in Arvada. It is part of the Jefferson County School District. History Arvada West High School was contracted in 1961 and opened in 1963. By the late 1990s, Arvada West was serving so many students it was on a split schedule. Ralston Valley High School, which opened in 2000, relieved the overcrowding. Extracurricular activities The school's athletic teams, known as the Arvada West Wildcats, compete in CHSAA class 5A in the Jefferson County League. Teams are fielded in interscholastic competition in baseball, basketball, cheerleading and poms, cross country, football, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis, and volleyball. Arvada () is a home rule municipality located in Jefferson and Adams counties, Colorado, United States. The city population was 124,402 at the 2020 United States Census, with 121,510 residing in Jefferson County and 2,892 residing in Adams County. Arvada is the seventh most populous city in Colorado. Kevin John McDougal (born May 18, 1977) is a former American football running back who played two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League. He played college football at Colorado State University and attended Arvada West High School in Arvada, Colorado. College career McDougal played for the Colorado State Rams from 1996 to 1999. In 1999, he was named the Mountain West Conference offensive player of the year and scholar-athlete of the year by the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame.
