Artūrs Visockis-Rubenis
Artūrs Visockis-Rubenis (born August 11, 1985) is a Latvian professional basketball coach, who is currently a head coach for BK Liepāja, and an assistant for Luca Banchi in Latvian National Team. Career From 2011 till 2016 he worked as a head coach of Latvijas Universitāte, reaching Latvian League semi-finals in his debut season. From 2016 till 2019 he worked as head coach for BK Ogre, guiding them to first Latvian league medals in club's history. In summer of 2019 Visockis-Rubenis signed with 10-time Latvian champions BK Ventspils and debuted in FIBA Europe Cup level helping the team to reach the quarterfinals. In summer of 2020 Visockis-Rubenis became a head coach for BK Liepāja, signing a multi-year contract. National teams In 2015 he was named Latvian U16 team head coach and led the team in 2016 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship. Basketball coaching is the act of directing and strategizing the behavior of a basketball team or individual basketball player. Basketball coaching typically encompasses the improvement of individual and team offensive and defensive skills, as well as overall physical conditioning. Coaches also have the responsibility to improve their team by player development, strategy, and in-game management. Coaches also teach and inspire their team to be their best. FIBA Europe Cup
The FIBA Europe Cup (FEC) is an annual professional club basketball competition organised by FIBA for eligible European clubs. It is FIBA's European-wide second level. Clubs mainly qualify for the competition based on their performance in national leagues and cup competitions, although this is not the sole deciding factor. The league was founded in 2015 as a replacement of the FIBA EuroChallenge. History On June 30, 2015, FIBA announced it would start a new league to compete with Euroleague Basketball's EuroCup. The Flag of Europe or European Flag consists of twelve golden stars forming a circle on a blue field. It was designed and adopted in 1955 by the Council of Europe (CoE) as a symbol for the whole of Europe. Since 1985, the flag has also been a symbol of the European Union (EU), whose 27 member states are all also CoE members, although in that year the EU had not yet assumed its present name or constitutional form (which came in steps in 1993 and 2009). The Latvian Basketball League (LBL; lv, Latvijas Basketbola līga) also known as the '' Pafbet'' LBL for sponsorship reasons, is the national basketball championship in Latvia; composed of 6 teams. It is considered the biggest basketball league in Latvia. The LBL is a part of Latvian Basketball Association, which is the national governing body of basketball in Latvia. Flag Of Latvia
The national flag of Latvia ( lv, Latvijas karogs) was used by independent Latvia from 1918 until the country was occupied by the Soviet Union in 1940. Its use was suppressed during Soviet rule. On 27 February 1990, shortly before the country regained its independence, the Latvian government re-adopted the traditional red-white-red flag. Though officially adopted in 1921, the Latvian flag was in use as early as the 13th century. The red colour is sometimes described as symbolizing the readiness of the Latvians to give the blood from their hearts for freedom and their willingness to defend their sovereignty. An alternative interpretation, according to the ''Rhymed Chronicle of Livonia'', is that a Latgalian leader was wounded in battle, and the edges of the white sheet in which he was wrapped were stained by his blood with the centre stripe of the flag being left unstained. 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualification
The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification was the first FIBA Basketball World Cup, World Cup for which teams had to qualify for under the new qualification system. The process determined 31 out of the 32 teams that participated at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Qualified teams Format The continental championships no longer belong to the qualification system for the World Cup. Instead, two rounds of continental qualifying tournaments were held over two years in a home-and-away format. The first round of the qualifiers were held in late 2017 and early 2018. EuroBasket 2017
EuroBasket 2017 was the 40th edition of the EuroBasket championship that was organized by FIBA Europe and held between 31 August and 17 September 2017. Beginning from 2017, the continental championships take place every four years with a similar system of qualification as for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Like the previous edition, the tournament was co-hosted by four countries. Games in the group stage were held in Turkey, Finland, Israel and Romania. The knock-out phase was played in Istanbul, Turkey. Slovenia won their first-ever tournament after defeating Serbia 93–85 in the final.
