Artur Lossmann
Artur Lossmann (also Arthur Lossmann; 5 October 1877 Vana-Vändra Parish, Pärnu County – 1 August 1972 London) was an Estonian military personnel (Major-General). He was one of the most prominent military medicine specialist in Estonia. In 1904, he graduated from S. M. Kirov Military Medical Academy. From 1907 until 1914, he worked as a military physician in St. Petersburg. He participated on Russo-Japanese War, and in World War I as a soldier of the Russian Empire. Lossmann returned to Estonia and from 1918 until 1920, (during Estonian War of Independence) he was the chief physician of Tallinn 1st Military Hospital. From 1920 until 1935, he was the chief of the Healthcare Administration of the Militaries (). In 1935 he retired. In 1944, following the Soviet occupation of Estonia, he fled to Germany, and in 1947, he emigrated to the United Kingdom, where he died in 1972. Cross Of Liberty (Estonia)
The Cross of Liberty () was a medal established by then Prime Minister of Estonia, Konstantin Päts, on 24 February 1919 to honor people for their services during the Estonian War of Independence and conferred in three grades, each in three classes. Grade I was for military leadership, Grade II for personal courage, and Grade III for civilian service. Grade and class is attached to the name of recipient in the form of post-nominal letters. The 1st class of II grade was never conferred. Although still mentioned in the list of Estonian state decorations by the president of the republic, bestowal of the Cross of Liberty was terminated on 19 June 1925. The last surviving recipient of the Cross of Liberty was Karl Jaanus VR II/3, who died on 6 October 2000. The Defence Forces Cemetery of Tallinn ( et, Tallinna Kaitseväe kalmistu), sometimes called the Tallinn Military Cemetery ( et, Tallinna Sõjavae kalmistu), is one of the three cemeteries of the Tallinn City Centre Cemetery (Estonian: ''Siselinna kalmistu''). It is situated about 3 kilometres outside the centre of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. During Estonian independence before the Soviet and German occupations of the 1940-1991 period, it was the Estonian equivalent of Arlington National Cemetery in the USA - the foremost military cemetery of independent Estonia.
