Articulate (TV Series)
''Articulate'' is an American weekly public television documentary series on the creative arts hosted by Irish-American journalist Jim Cotter. Background ''Articulate'' profiles artists and how they interact with the world around them, with weekly 30-minute episodes on visual arts, crafts, ceramics, music, dance, photography, literature, and many other forms of art and expression. Going beyond art history and culture, ''Articulate'' takes an interdisciplinary look at the many different forms of human creative expression and delves into philosophical topics such as the nature of human existence. The television series debuted in 2015, with episodes still currently in production. ''Articulate''’s diverse guests come from around the world; many episodes are filmed on location. George Virden Watsky (born September 15, 1986), better known mononymously as Watsky, is an American rapper, singer, musician, songwriter, record producer, poet, author, and illustrator. Watsky broke out as a rapper with his viral video "Pale kid raps fast" in 2011, which featured his trademark chopping style. Elizabeth Streb (born February 23, 1950) is an American choreographer, performer, and teacher of contemporary dance. Background Streb was born and raised in Rochester, New York and, after graduating from the dance program of State University of New York at Brockport in 1972, she was interested in experimental works and worked and performed for many years with investigational groups including Molissa Fenley's. Fabio Luisi (born 17 January 1959) is an Italian conductor. He is currently principal conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and chief conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Kevin Barnes
Kevin Lawrence Barnes (born May 30, 1974) is the singer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter for the indie rock group of Montreal, part of the Elephant 6 Collective. Barnes started the band and, although providing several stories as to the origin of the name, is said to have named it after a failed romance with a woman from Montreal. Gerald Busby
Gerald Busby (born December 16, 1935) is a Texas-born American composer. Busby was born in Tyler, Texas.In the interview with Adam Gopnik he indicated that there was a Baptist minister as part of his growing up. He studied piano as a child, playing with the Houston Symphony when he was fifteen. He attended Yale where he studied music in college, but once graduated, began working as a traveling salesman. At age 40 he had an "epiphany" and began to compose, a direction which surprised him. In 1977, with the assistance of Virgil Thomson, he moved to the Hotel Chelsea in New York City where he has written most of his work. Living at the Hotel Chelsea brought him into contact with numerous cultural figures. One of them was dancer Rudolf Nureyev and his then-partner Wallace Potts. Roberto Lugo (born 1981) is an American potter, social activist, spoken word poet, and educator. Lugo's work as a social activist is represented in his artworks, where he draws together hip-hop, history, politics and his cultural background into formal ceramics and 2D works. Born in Kensington, Philadelphia to Puerto Rican parents, Lugo began his career as a graffiti artist and teacher before discovering ceramics. Moe Albert Brooker (September 24, 1940 – January 9, 2022) was an African American painter, educator and printmaker. An abstract artist, he used vivid colors, lines, stripes, squares and circles to infuse a feeling of improvisational jazz in his works. Mira Nakashima-Yarnall (born 1942) is an architect and furniture maker. She is the daughter of George Nakashima and is now the President and Creative Director for George Nakashima, Woodworker. Early life and education Nakashima was born in 1942 in Seattle, Washington. When Mira was six months old, during World War II, she was sent alongside her parents to the Minidoka War Relocation Center in Idaho. During their imprisonment, her father George learned woodworking under master carpenter Gentaro Hikogawa.
