Arthur Thompson (September 1931 – 13 March 1993) was a Scottish gangster who was active in Glasgow from the 1950s and took charge of organised crime in the city for over thirty years. Arthur Lisle Thompson (19 June 1884 – 1 February 1949) was a Liberal party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Mooresville, Ontario and became an implement agent. Thompson was an alderman of Chatham, Ontario from 1922 to 1925. He was the city's mayor in 1926 and 1927 then city manager from 1928 to 1935. He was acclaimed to Parliament at the Kent riding by in a by-election on 11 December 1939 following the death of incumbent James Warren Rutherford. After serving the remainder of the 18th Canadian Parliament, Thompson was defeated by Earl Desmond of the National Government (Conservative) Party. Arthur Thompson (jockey)
Arthur Patrick Thompson (1916–1988) was an Irish National Hunt racing jockey, during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s notable for riding the winner of the Grand National twice. Firstly with Sheila's Cottage in 1948 and then with Teal in 1952 Thompson was born in Carlow , Ireland in 1916. During World War II, he joined the Northumberland Fusiliers and became a "Desert Rat," serving in the Middle East and North Africa. Unfortunately, he was later captured and spent three years as a POW in Germany.. Following his retirement from racing in 1956, Thompson became a trainer, continuing to make a significant contribution to the sport. Thompson made two first-class appearances for Leicestershire against Derbyshire and Warwickshire in the 1937 County Championship. He scored 11 runs with a high score of 5 in his two matches.
