Arthur Peel (diplomat)
Sir Arthur Robert Peel (15 August 1861 – 7 October 1952) was a British diplomat who was envoy to Thailand, Brazil and Bulgaria. Career Arthur Robert Peel (grandson of William Yates Peel) was educated at Eton College and entered the Diplomatic Service as an attaché in 1886. He served in St Petersburg, Washington, D.C., Buenos Aires, The Hague, Lisbon and Montevideo, and was consul-general for the island of Crete, before being appointed Minister to Thailand (then called Siam) 1909–15, to Brazil 1915–18 and (after a year in London) to Bulgaria 1920–21. Peel was awarded a knighthood (KCMG) in 1917. St Cuthbert's, Philbeach Gardens (Earls Court), is a Grade I listed Anglican church at 50 Philbeach Gardens, Earls Court, London SW5. The Church was built 1884–87, designed by the architect Hugh Roumieu Gough (1843–1904), son of Alexander Dick Gough. The interior furnishings designed by William Bainbridge Reynolds (1845–1935) who was a member of the congregation. It has been hailed as Jewel of the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. The church is situated on the north west of Philbeach Gardens in Earls Court near the West Cromwell Road (A4). Adjoining the church is the clergy house, and to that the Philbeach Hall. William Erskine (diplomat)
Sir William Augustus Forbes Erskine (30 October 1871 – 17 July 1952) was the first British ambassador to the Republic of Poland. Career William Erskine, second son of Walter Erskine, 11th Earl of Mar, was educated at Eton College and Magdalen College, Oxford. He joined the Foreign Office in 1894 and served at Buenos Aires, Teheran, Rome and Stockholm where he was chargé d'affaires in 1913. He was posted to Athens with the rank of Counsellor of Embassy 1913–17 where he was British delegate to the international financial commission which had been established following the Greco-Turkish War (1897) to oversee the public finances of Greece. First World War
