Arthur Maloney
Arthur Edward Martin Maloney QC (26 November 1919 – 20 September 1984) was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada and first Ontario Ombudsman from 1975 to 1979. Maloney was born in Eganville, Ontario. He became a noted defence lawyer following his 1943 graduation from Osgoode Hall. In 1952 he unsuccessfully defended notorious bank robbers of The Boyd Gang. He was the son of Martin James Maloney, another Member of Parliament. He was first elected at the Parkdale riding in the 1957 general election and re-elected for a second term in Parliament in the 1958 election. From August 1957 to February 1958 he was Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Labour. He was a principal author of the 1960 Canadian Bill of Rights. Maloney was defeated by Stanley Haidasz of the Liberal party in the 1962 election. Several years of poor health began in 1979 when Maloney incurred a stroke, ending with a cancer diagnosis. Eganville, Ontario
Eganville is a community occupying a deep limestone valley carved at the Fifth Chute of the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada. Eganville lies within the township of Bonnechere Valley. Eganville is also known as the Ordovician Fossil Capital of Canada. There are many fossils to be found in this area from approximately 500 million years ago (in a time before dinosaurs) including coral, crinoids, trilobites, cephalopods, gastropods, pelecypods, stromatolites, and brachiopods. The Bonnechere Valley is also a gateway to some of north-eastern Ontario's most well-known tourist destinations, including the nearby Bonnechere Caves. The caves are located under a hill of limestone, said by geologists to have been the bottom of a tropical sea 500 million years ago. James Anthony Maloney
James Anthony Maloney (March 30, 1905 – October 1, 1961) was a Canadian politician who was a Member of Provincial Parliament in Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1956 to 1961. He represented the riding of Renfrew South for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. Born in Eganville, Ontario, he was the son of Martin James Maloney, who served in the House of Commons of Canada. His maternal grandfather, James Bonfield, was also a politician, having served as a Liberal member of the Ontario Legislature. He was trained as a lawyer at Osgoode Hall. Henry Joseph Maloney (15 April 1915 – 7 July 1987) was a Canadian priest, a school and college governor, and community leader based in Bancroft, Ontario. Maloney was born in Eaganville in 1915, as the son of physician and politician Martin James Maloney. His three brothers included James Maloney who became a politician and Arthur Maloney who became a politician and the Ontario Ombudsman. He was the founder of Our Lady of Mercy Separate School and credited for getting Bancroft connected to the Canadian telephone network. He was the first chair of the board of Loyalist College. In the 1960s, Maloney persuaded the Canadian prime minister John Diefenbaker to sell uranium mined in Canada to the United Kingdom. As a result of his lobbying and negotiations, the closure of the two mines was postponed. Ramon John Hnatyshyn ( ; uk, Роман Іванович Гнатишин, Roman Ivanovych Hnatyshyn, ; March 16, 1934December 18, 2002) was a Canadian lawyer and statesman who served as governor general of Canada, the 24th since Canadian Confederation. Hnatyshyn was born and educated in Saskatchewan and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force prior to being elected to the House of Commons of Canada, House of Commons in 1974. On June 4, 1979, Hnatyshyn was sworn into the Queen's Privy Council for Canada and served as a minister of the Crown in two non-successive governments until 1988. John Carnell Crosbie, (January 30, 1931 – January 10, 2020) was a Canadian provincial and federal politician who served as the 12th lieutenant governor of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Prior to being lieutenant governor, he served as a provincial cabinet minister under Premiers Joey Smallwood and Frank Moores as well as a federal cabinet minister during the Progressive Conservative (PC) governments of Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney. Daniel Roland Michener (April 19, 1900 – August 6, 1991) was a Canadian lawyer, politician, and diplomat who served as Governor General of Canada, the 20th since Canadian Confederation. Michener was born and educated in Alberta. In 1917 he served briefly in the Royal Air Force. He acquired a university degree, then attended the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. Michener then returned to Canada and practised law before entering politics.
