Arthur Lockett
Arthur Lockett (11 March 1877 β 5 March 1959) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Aston Villa, Preston North End and Stoke. Club career Lockett was born in Alsager and played for local amateur sides Alsager's Bank, Audley and Cross Heath before joining Crewe Alexandra. He joined Stoke in 1900 for a small fee and played 16 times during the 1900β01 season as Stoke fought a successful battle against relegation. The next season saw Stoke again in relegation trouble and for the second season running surviving on the final day. Lockett experience a much better 1902β03 campaign as Stoke finished 6th, their highest league position to that point. Lockett's good form was rewarded as he was called up for England duties in February 1903. Alsager
Alsager ( ) is a town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire East in Cheshire, England. It is located to the north-west of Stoke-on-Trent and east of Crewe. The town's population was 13,389 at the 2021 census. ''The Mere'' is a lake in the centre of Alsager; this isolated pool, once the focal point of the town, is only accessible by two fenced public viewing areas and by local residents who have gardens adjoining the waters. Alsager has hosted an annual summer carnival since 1998; until June 2009, it was located in Milton Park, but it had since moved to the Alsager School playing fields to increase capacity, until moving back to Milton Park in 2017. Southern Football League
The Southern League is a men's football competition featuring semi-professional clubs from the South and Midlands of England. Together with the Isthmian League and the Northern Premier League it forms levels seven and eight of the English football league system. The structure of the Southern League has changed several times since its formation in 1894, and currently there are 84 clubs which are divided into four divisions. The Central and South Divisions are at step 3 of the National League System (NLS), and are feeder divisions, mainly to the National League South but also to the National League North. The 1908β09 season was the 38th season of competitive football in England. Overview Tottenham Hotspur played their first ever season in the Football League, gaining promotion to the First Division in the process. Spurs, along with Bradford Park Avenue entered the Second Division to replace Lincoln City and Stoke. This year started a new competition: the Charity Shield; a match between the champion of the Professional League vs. the champion of the Amateur League. The first championship went to Manchester United, in a replayed final against Queens Park Rangers.
