Arthur Hill (English Actor)
Arthur Albert Hill (1874–1932) was an English animal impersonator for theatre. Hill’s most famous role was as the Cowardly Lion in '' The Wizard of Oz''. Biography Arthur Hill began his career performing animals in pantomimes. Among his roles were the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood, the bear in ''Valentine and Orson'' and the cat in '' Dick Wittington''. Hill’s animal impersonations became very popular and in 1902 he was offered the role of the Cowardly Lion in the original production of '' The Wizard of Oz'', written by L. Frank Baum, who also wrote the book of the same name. However, unlike the original book, the Lion was not a central character and was reduced to a bit part. He was also much more animalistic, as he did not speak. His quest for courage was also deleted. Despite this, Hill still earned critical acclaim and his performance was highly popular. Arthur George Hill
Arthur George Hill (12 November 1857 – 16 June 1923) was a British organ builder. Life Hill was born to Thomas Hill and Mary Sophie, who was the daughter of Rev. Charles Thorold, Rector of Ludborough, Lincolnshire. He was educated at the Westminster School and subsequently went to take a degree in the Natural Science Tripos at Jesus College, Cambridge. He took an interest in archaeology and architecture and published several books about Cambridgeshire. In 1882 he became a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. He married Amy Williams in 1886 with whom he had two daughters. When he left Cambridge he began work at the organ building company, William Hill & Sons, founded by his grandfather William Hill. Thomas Hill had been the head of the company since William's death in 1871, and when Thomas died in 1893 Arthur took over. Arthur Hill Hassall (13 December 1817, Teddington – 9 April 1894, San Remo) was a British physician, chemist and microscopist who is primarily known for his work in public health and food safety. Biography Hassall was born in Middlesex as the youngest son of five children in a house of a surgeon. His father was Thomas Hassall (1771–1844) and his mother, née Ann Sherrock ( 1778–1817). He spent his school years in Richmond. He entered medicine through apprenticeship in 1834 to his uncle Sir James Murray (1788–1871), spending his early career in Dublin, where he also studied botany and the seashore. In 1846 he published a two-volume study, ''The Microscopic Anatomy of the Human Body in Health and Disease'', the first English textbook on the subject. Arthur's Hill is a district of Newcastle upon Tyne. It lies approximately 1 mile west of Newcastle City Centre. It is bordered by Fenham to the west, Elswick to the south, and Spital Tongues to the north west. Arthur Hill High School is a public high school in Saginaw, Michigan, United States. It serves students in grades 9-12 as one of three high schools in the Saginaw Public School District. History The school was named after a successful lumbering and shipping owner, Arthur Hill. He was president of the school board for five years as well as the mayor of Saginaw three times. AHHS has been serving the Saginaw school district for over 118 years as of 2022. Arthur Edwin Hill
Arthur Edwin Hill (9 January 1888 – 5 June 1966) was a British water polo player who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics. He was part of the British team, which was successful in winning a gold medal at the Stockholm Olympiad. Arthur Hill served in World War 1 and was a swimming champion in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. He went on to represent New York Athletics Club in 1922 and several English counties: Staffordshire, 1908 to 1913, Sussex, 1923 to 1927 and Kent, 1928. Arthur Hill was Vice-President of Plaistow, Newham, Plaistow United Swimming Club, which won the English Water Polo Championship in the 1928/29 season.
