Arthur Greenup
Arthur Edward Greenup (11 July 1902 – 3 August 1980) was a trade unionist and politician in New South Wales, Australia. Early life Born in Sydney, he became a shop assistant at the age of 14. He was an organiser and eventually the President of the Shop Assistants' Union. Political career In 1938 he was elected an alderman for the Municipality of Newtown, serving until the council was abolished in 1948. He served as Mayor of Newtown for 2 years, from December 1941 until December 1943. Under the ''Local Government (Areas) Act 1948'', Newtown became a ward of Sydney City Council and Greenup was elected one of four aldermen, serving until 1 December 1950. In June 1950 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for Newtown-Annandale, representing the Labor Party. Division Of Dalley
The Division of Dalley was an Australian Electoral Division in New South Wales. The division was created in 1900 and was one of the original 75 divisions contested at the first federal election. It was named for the colonial politician William Dalley and was located in the inner suburbs of Sydney, including Balmain, Glebe and Leichhardt. It was abolished in 1969. For most of its history it was a safe seat for the Australian Labor Party, which held it without interruption from 1910 onward. In the 1930s it was a stronghold of the radical Premier of New South Wales, Jack Lang. Its most prominent member was Ted Theodore, who was deputy prime minister and treasurer in the Scullin government, having previously been Premier of Queensland. ''Truth'' was a newspaper published in Sydney, Australia. It was founded in August 1890 by William Nicholas Willis and its first editor was Adolphus Taylor. In 1891 it claimed to be "The organ of radical democracy and Australian National Independence" and advocated "a republican Commonwealth created by the will of the whole people", but from its early days it was mainly a scandal sheet. Subsequent owners included Adolphus Taylor, Paddy Crick and John Norton. The Australian Workers' Union (AWU) is one of Australia's largest and oldest trade unions. It traces its origins to unions founded in the pastoral and mining industries in the 1880s and currently has approximately 80,000 members.
