Arthur Grass
Arthur Conrad Grass (11 October 1897 – October 1994), played cricket for Brazil in international matches in the 1920s and toured England with the 1932 South American team, when he appeared in three first-class matches. Grass was a right-handed batsman who played four times in international matches between Brazil and Argentina in the late 1920s, mainly batting in the lower order. His highest score in these matches was 60, batting at No 9, in the third of three games in Buenos Aires in January 1930. On the South Americans tour of England in 1932, he played in only three of the first-class games, batting mainly at No 10 and being not out four times in six innings. His highest was 24 not out against Sir Julien Cahn's XI. On the England tour as a whole, he only had 12 innings and did not bowl. Denmark Hill
Denmark Hill is an area and road in Camberwell, in the London Borough of Southwark. It is a sub-section of the western flank of the Norwood Ridge, centred on the long, curved Ruskin Park slope of the ridge. The road is part of the A215 road, A215 which north of its main foot, Camberwell Green, becomes Camberwell Road and south of Red Post Hill becomes named Herne Hill, another district. Toponymy The area and road is said to have acquired its name from Anne, Queen of Great Britain, Queen Anne's husband, Prince George of Denmark, who hunted there. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack'', or simply ''Wisden'', colloquially the Bible of Cricket, is a cricket reference book published annually in the United Kingdom. The description "bible of cricket" was first used in the 1930s by Alec Waugh in a review for the ''London Mercury''. In October 2013, an all-time Test World XI was announced to mark the 150th anniversary of ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack''. In 1998, an Australian edition of ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack'' was launched. It ran for eight editions. In 2012, an Indian edition of ''Wisden Cricketers' Almanack'' was launched (dated 2013), entitled ''Wisden India Almanack'', that has been edited by Suresh Menon since its inception. Julien Cahn
Sir Julien Cahn, 1st Baronet (21 October 1882 – 26 September 1944) was a British businessman, philanthropist and cricket enthusiast. Early life and family Cahn was born in Cardiff in 1882 to parents of German Jewish descent. His father, Albert Cahn (1856–1921), was born in the small village of Russheim in the Germersheim (district), Germersheim district, Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis. He married Matilda Lewis (d. 1921), daughter of Dr Sigismund Lewis of Liverpool, who had also emigrated from Germany. Dr Lewis delivered his grandson after a difficult birth; Matilda recovered well but Julien would be an only child. Julien grew up in a strict Orthodox Judaism, Orthodox household in Nottingham, where his father opened the Nottingham Furnishing Company in 1885. Albert was very active in the Nottingham Jewish community, becoming the president of the Chaucer Street synagogue and Hebrew Philanthropic Society. Argentine Cricket Team
The Argentina national cricket team is the team that represents the country of Argentina in international cricket. The team is organised by the Argentina Cricket Association (ACA), which became an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1974. With the sport having been introduced by British immigrants, Argentina played its first international cricket match in 1868, against Uruguay, with fixtures against Brazil and Chile following in 1888 and 1893, respectively. Beginning in 1912, there were regular visits from English teams, including the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) on two occasions. The Brazil national cricket team is the men's team that represents the country of Brazil in international cricket. The team is organised by the Brazilian Cricket Association, which became an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2002 and an associate member in 2017. However, the national side has a history dating back much longer, with its first recorded international match coming against Argentina in 1888. Regular international competition commenced in the 1920s, and resumed in the 1950s after a gap during World War II.
