Arthur Ayres Ellis
Arthur Ayres Ellis (1830 – 22 March 1887) was a Greek Testament critic. Arthur Ayres Ellis was born in 1830 in Birmingham, the son of Charles Ellis of Birmingham. He was educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham, under Dr. Lee. He entered Trinity College, Cambridge, as a subsizar in 1848, graduated as ninth in the first class of the classical tripos in 1852, was elected fellow in 1854, and took the degree of M.A. in 1855. He was ordained soon afterwards, and filled the office of junior dean of his college, and that of divinity lecturer at Christ's College. In 1860 he was presented by Trinity College to the vicarage of St Mary's church in Stotfold in Bedfordshire, where he remained till his death on 22 March 1887. While resident in college he gave a great deal of attention to Richard Bentley's preparations for his edition of the Greek Testament, and in 1862 he published at Cambridge the volume entitled ''Bentleii Critica Sacra'', which contains a considerable portion of ... Arthur Ellis (British Army Officer)
Major-General (United Kingdom), Major-General Sir Arthur Edward Augustus Ellis, (13 December 1837 – 11 June 1907) was a British Army officer and courtier in the Household of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Ellis was the son of Hon. Augustus Frederick Ellis, the son of Charles Ellis, 1st Baron Seaford, and Mary Frances Thurlow Cunynghame. He was educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst and commissioned into the 21st Regiment of Foot on 11 August 1854. Ellis fought in the Crimean War between 1854 and 1856. He soon transferred to the 33rd Regiment of Foot and was promoted to Captain (BARM), captain on 17 April 1860. On 22 April 1862 Ellis transferred from the 33rd Foot to the Grenadier Guards. In 1876, Ellis became an equerry to the Edward VII, Prince of Wales and was invested as a Companion of the Order of the Star of India. Arthur Edward Ellis
Arthur Edward Ellis (8 July 1914 – 23 May 1999) was an English football referee. He was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire. Ellis was a referee in The Football Association competitions and in FIFA international competitions. He refereed at the 1950, 1954 and 1958 World Cups; running the line in the 1950 FIFA World Cup Final and Third Place Play-off in 1958 and refereeing the Third Place Play-off in 1954. Refereeing career Ellis is most remembered for refereeing the notorious 1954 ''Battle of Berne'' and the first leg of the 1960–61 second round tie in the European Cup between Real Madrid and Barcelona. In the closing minutes of that match Ellis waved down a flag as Sandor Kocsis strode into the Madrid penalty area, and awarded a penalty when the Hungarian was fouled. The resulting score equalised the tie. Ellis also journeyed with the English touring side in Argentina in the Summer of 1953. Arthur Ellis (rugby Union)
Arthur Ellis (born 7 June 1990) is a rugby union player who plays at open-side flanker for Rosslyn Park. His father played for Wales Schools, Neath and was an Oxford Blue. Ellis attended St Benedict's School, Ealing. Arthur Ellis played for Wales U16s before representing England at U18, 19 and 20 level. His older brother, Hugo Ellis also represented England U20. Arthur Ellis left London Wasps in June 2010 to join Newport Gwent Dragons. He was released by Newport Gwent Dragons at the end of the 2010–11 season and joined Bridgend Ravens. He has made several appearances for the Ospreys (rugby union) in the Anglo-Welsh Cup and made his first league appearance in the Pro12 against Edinburgh Rugby on 22 February 2013. Arthur Ellis (February 28, 1890 – October 19, 1964) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. Arthur Carr Ellis (born July 26, 1961) is an American politician and accountant who has served as a member of the Maryland Senate from the 28th district since 2019. Background Carr was born in Portland Parish, Jamaica, on July 26, 1961. He graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and agriculture in 1983, and the City University of New York (CUNY) with a Master of Science in accountancy in 1990. Carr served in the United States Air Force from 1983 to 1989, and in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 2001, attaining the rank of second lieutenant. Arthur Erskine Ellis (1 October 1902 – 28 February 1983), often known as A.E. Ellis, was a British scientist, biologist and naturalist. Ellis is best known for his large number of malacological publications, including some which became essential texts on the subject of British non-marine malacology. To a lesser extent, Ellis published papers about other land invertebrates and various aspects of the fauna and flora of Britain. In addition Ellis had five ghost stories published. Ellis was also a plant collector. From 1919 to 1961 he contributed specimens of spermatophytes to a number of different herbariums in Britain.
