	Arthur Acland Allen Arthur Acland Allen (11 August 1868 – 20 May 1939) was a British Liberal Party politician who served as a member of parliament (MP) between 1906 and 1918. Allen was first elected to the House of Commons at the 1906 general election as MP for Christchurch in Hampshire. It was his third attempt to enter the House of Commons, having stood unsuccessfully in Thornbury in 1895 and in the Eastern Division of Dorset in 1900 general election (losing in 1900 by only 96 votes). Christchurch had been held by the Conservative Party since 1885, and at the general election in January 1910, Allen lost his seat to a Conservative. At the next general election, in December 1910, he stood instead in the Scottish constituency of Dunbartonshire, where he won the seat. 	Arthur Allen (Labour Politician) Arthur Cecil Allen (10 January 1887 – 8 October 1981) was a British footwear manufacturer, trade union officer and Member of Parliament. He served as an Opposition Whip, but his most important position was as Parliamentary Private Secretary to Hugh Gaitskell during the first few years as Leader of the Opposition. Education Allen graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1981 with an AB in development studies. Career Since 1995, Allen has mainly written about biology and medicine. He became a freelance writer in 1996, writing articles for a variety of publications, including the Washington Post, the New York Times Magazine, the New Republic, Mother Jones, and Redbook. In 2007, his book '' Vaccine: The Controversial Story of Medicine's Greatest Lifesaver'' was published by W. W. Norton. 	Arthur Allen House Bacon's Castle, also variously known as "Allen's Brick House" or the "Arthur Allen House" is located in Surry County, Virginia, United States, and is the oldest documented brick dwelling in what is now the United States. Built in 1665, it is noted as an extremely rare example of Jacobean architecture in the New World. The house became known as "Bacon's Castle" because it was occupied as a fort or "castle" by the followers of Nathaniel Bacon during Bacon's Rebellion in 1676. However, contrary to popular folklore, Bacon never lived at Bacon's Castle, nor is he even known to have visited it. Today Bacon's Castle is an historic house museum and historic site open for guest visitation.
