Artemisia, Zakynthos
Artemisia ( el, Αρτεμισία) is a former municipality on the island of Zakynthos, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Zakynthos, of which it is a municipal unit. It is on the central west coast of the island. It has a land area of 104.890 km² and a 2011 census population of 4,612 inhabitants. Its municipal seat was the town of Machairado (pop. 941). Other large towns are Romiri (605), Lagopodo (483), Ágios Léontas (393), Lagkadákia (357), Koiliomenos (391), and Vougiáto (306). Ionian Islands (region)
The Ionian Islands Region ( el, Περιφέρεια Ιονίων Νήσων, translit=Periféria Ioníon Níson, ) is the smallest by area of the thirteen administrative regions of Greece located in the Ionian Sea. It comprises all the Ionian Islands except Kythera, which, although historically part of the island group, was separated and integrated to the Attica Region. Demographics The population of the Ionian Islands in 2011 was 207,855, decreased by 1.5% compared to the population in 2001. Nevertheless, the region remains the third by population density with 90.1/km2 nationwide, well above the national of 81.96/km2. The most populous of the major islands is Corfu with a population of 104,371, followed by Zante (40,759), Cephalonia (35,801), Leucas (23,693) and Ithaca (3,231). It is located northwest of Machairado Machairado ( el, Μαχαιράδο) is a village in the central part of the island of Zakynthos, Greece. It was the seat of the municipality of Artemisia. In 2011 its population was 941. It is situated at the foot of low mountains, 1 km nort ... and from Zakynthos City. Its population is 34 (2011 census). Two roads connect the town, one which goes through the neighbouring town of Loucha, and one which comes from Agia Marina. The town consists of a main road which most of the buildings are located on. Zakynthos
Zakynthos (also spelled Zakinthos; el, Ζάκυνθος, Zákynthos ; it, Zacinto ) or Zante (, , ; el, Τζάντε, Tzánte ; from the Venetian form) is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea.
