''Artemis Fowl and the Last Guardian'', known in America as ''Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian'' is the eighth novel in Eoin Colfer's ''Artemis Fowl'' series. Colfer had previously alluded to the novel being the final entry when he stated that the previous book, ''The Atlantis Complex'', was the penultimate in the series. ''The Last Guardian'' was released 10 July 2012 by Viking Press and Disney Hyperion. Eoin Colfer
Eoin Colfer (; born 14 May 1965) is an Irish author of children's books. He worked as a primary school teacher before he became a full-time writer. He is best known for being the author of the Artemis Fowl (series), ''Artemis Fowl'' series. In September 2008, Colfer was commissioned to write the sixth instalment of the ''Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'' series, titled ''And Another Thing... (novel), And Another Thing ...'', which was published in October 2009. In October 2016, in a contract with Marvel Comics, he released ''Iron Man#In other media, Iron Man: The Gauntlet''. The Irish Book Awards are Irish literary awards given annually to books and authors in various categories. In 2018 An Post took over sponsorship of the awards from Bord Gais Energy. It is the only literary award supported by all-Irish bookstores. First awarded in 2006, they grew out of the Hughes & Hughes bookstore's Irish Novel of the Year Prize which was inaugurated in 2003. Since 2007 the Awards have been an independent not-for-profit company funded by sponsorship. The primary sponsor is An Post, the state owned postal service in Ireland.
