Art In Georgia
Georgian art ( ka, ქართული ხელოვნება) grew along with the development of the Georgian statehood, starting from the ancient kingdoms of Colchis and Iberia and flourishing in the Middle Ages during the Kingdom of Georgia. Because of Georgia's location at the intersection of continents and numerous civilizations, over the centuries the country attracted travelers, merchants, missionaries and conquerors of all kinds and creeds, all of which left marks on the country's cultural and artistic environment throughout its history. Georgian art tradition has thus experienced influences from Mesopotamian, Anatolian, Greek, Persian, Roman and Byzantine art throughout antiquity. It has further grown within the framework of Christian ecclesiastical and middle-eastern art of the Middle Ages, and ultimately it has evolved in the context of European and Russian art from the 19th century onwards. Gia Bugadze
Gia Bugadze ( ka, გია ბუღაძე) is a prolific contemporary Georgian artist. He was the Rector of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts from 2003 to 2012. Early life and education Gia (Giorgi) Bugadze was born on September 24, 1956, in one of the old city areas of Tbilisi, Georgia, to a family of doctors. From an early age he showed interest in art. He acquired a classical education in the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. He studied at the Palace of Pioneers and Pupils, then at the Tbilisi Iakob Nikoladze Art College and finally at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (1977–1981), the Studio of Giorgi Totibadze and Koki Makharadze at the Faculty of Fine Arts. In 1985, he studied at the USSR Art Academy and graduated there, under headship of Ucha Japaridze. Niko Pirosmanashvili
Niko Pirosmani ( ka, ნიკო ფიროსმანი ''Nik’o Pirosmani''), simply referred to as Nikala (ნიკალა ''Nik’ala''; 1862–1918), was a Georgian painter who posthumously rose to prominence. Relatively poor for most of his life, he worked a variety of ordinary jobs. His rustic, everyday scenes are celebrated today for their depiction of the Georgia of Pirosmani's lifetime, and he has become one of the country's most beloved artistic figures. Niko Pirosmani is alleged to be the inspiration for the male protagonist portrayed in the famous Russian song Million Roses. Biography Pirosmani was born in the Georgian village of Mirzaani to a peasant family in modern-day Kakheti province. His parents, Aslan Pirosmanashvili and Tekle Toklikishvili, were farmers, who owned a small vineyard, with a few cows and oxen. Irakli Parjiani
Irakli Parjiani ( ka, ირაკლი ფარჯიანი) was a Georgian painter. He was born in the town of Mestia, Upper Svaneti, in Georgia's mountainous region. He studied at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (1968-1974), at the Faculty of Fine Arts. Religious motifs took a significant role in Parjiani’s works, which was quite unusual for a painter of the Soviet period. During 1968 and 1974 Irakli Parjiani attended the Faculty of Painting at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. His art holds special place in the history of the development of Georgian easel painting due to the individualism and originality of its pictorial language.
