Art Monk Construction was founded by Eric Astor and Garrett Rothman in State College, Pennsylvania in 1993.Jason Cherkis"Duo makes punk work, even here", ''The Daily Collegian'', Jan. 19, 1995 When Rothman left State College to study abroad, Astor was joined in managing the label by Rich Kraemer, a childhood friend from Tempe, Arizona, and the two additionally formed Lumberjack Distribution and Furnace MFG to distribute and manufacture products for Art Monk Construction and other independent labels and artists. The operations moved to Falls Church, Virginia, in August 1995. Lumberjack Distribution was sold to Doghouse Records in 1997, whereupon Kraemer moved to Europe and Astor was left running Art Monk Construction and Furnace MFG by himself.Jason Cherkis"Timber!" Seven Storey Mountain
Seven Storey Mountain is an American rock group from Phoenix, Arizona. The Van Pelt
The Van Pelt is an American indie rock band from New York City that were active from 1993 to 1997, and have reformed briefly several times since then. The band formed in 1993 at New York University, with Chris Leo (formerly of Native Nod and brother of Ted Leo) on vocals and guitar, David Baum on guitar, Barry London on bass, and Neil O'Brien on drums. A seven song demo was recorded with Geoff Turner at WGNS studio in DC, and a split single with Radio to Saturn featuring "His Saxophone Is My Guitar" was released on Sudden Shame records. London soon left the group, and Toko Yasuda joined the band in 1995 to record their first album ''Stealing From Our Favorite Thieves'' in 1996 with Alap Momin at Sweetwood Sound. The Crownhate Ruin
The Crownhate Ruin was an American short-lived post-hardcore band from Washington, D.C. Formed by ex- Hoover members Fred Erskine and Joe McRedmond, the band also featured Vin Novara (ex-1.6 Band) on drums. History Hoover disbanded after a 1994 US tour. That same year the Crownhate Ruin began touring and recording what would eventually become a collection of singles, as well as a split with Boston band Karate. In 1996 they released their only full-length album, '' Until the Eagle Grins'', on Dischord Records before splitting up later that year. Later on, the three members would collaborate on recordings or in performances for The Boom, HiM, and The Sorts. Erskine went on to join June of 44 before Hoover reunited. Karate is an American band, formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1993 by Geoff Farina, Eamonn Vitt and Gavin McCarthy, with Jeff Goddard joining in 1995. The band split up in 2005 before reuniting in 2022. The band is characterized by fusion of indie rock, emo, post-hardcore, post-rock and jazz, with the jazz influence becoming more dominant in later releases. History In 1993, Karate was formed by Geoff Farina (vocals, guitar), Eamonn Vitt (bass) and Gavin McCarthy (drums). In 1995, Jeff Goddard joined the band as bass player, and Vitt moved to second guitar. Previously in 1988, after moving to Chicago, Goddard had form the band Jones Very, with Vic Bondi and Jamie Van Bramer. Vitt departed Karate to pursue a medical career in 1997. Iceburn
Iceburn, known later as the Iceburn Collective, was a musical group formed in 1991 in Salt Lake City, Utah, US, by guitarist/vocalist/composer Gentry Densley, the sole constant member through multiple personnel changes. They were known for their unique style that combined elements of jazz, heavy metal, punk, and classical music. Releasing albums on Revelation Records and Victory Records, Iceburn achieved little mainstream attention, but earned critical praise for their unusual music. Kerosene 454
Kerosene 454 was a punk rock band from Washington, D.C. They formed in 1992. The core of the group, brothers John and Jim Wall along with Erik Denno, went through a number of drummers before hooking up with Darren Zentek in time to record their 1st LP, ''Situation At Hand''. This lineup continued to tour and record for 5 years, releasing the LPs ''Came By To Kill Me'' in 1996 and ''At Zero'' in 1998, both of which appeared on the Slowdime Records label (in conjunction with Dischord Records), which John Wall co-ran. The group split up soon after the release of ''At Zero''. Darren Zentek is currently drumming in Office of Future Plans.
