Art Devlin (baseball)
Arthur McArthur Devlin (October 16, 1879 – September 18, 1948) was an American athlete and coach. He is most known for his Major League Baseball career from to . College career Devlin attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he played baseball and football. As a senior in 1900, he served as the team captain. He was a standout back, and in 1900 was considered competitive for the Walter Camp All-American team if it had not been restricted to Harvard, Yale, and Princeton players. Coaching career He served as the head football coach at North Carolina A&M, now North Carolina State, for the 1902 and 1903 seasons. During that time, Devlin's teams compiled a 7–8–2 record for a winning percentage of .471. In the early 1920s, Devlin served as the head baseball coach at Fordham University. NC State Wolfpack Football
The NC State Wolfpack football team represents North Carolina State University in the sport of American football. The Wolfpack competes in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Atlantic Coast Conference#Divisions, Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Prior to joining the ACC in 1953, the Wolfpack were a member of the Southern Conference. In baseball statistics, fielding percentage, also known as fielding average, is a measure that reflects the percentage of times a defensive player properly handles a batted or thrown ball. It is calculated by the sum of putouts and assists, divided by the number of total chances (putouts + assists + errors). While a high fielding percentage is regarded as a sign of defensive skill, it is also possible for a player of lesser defensive skill to have a high fielding percentage, as it does not reflect or take into account a player's defensive range; a player who cannot get to a ball surrenders a hit instead of having an opportunity to make an out or an error.
