Arroyo Seco Municipality is a municipality in Querétaro in central Mexico. The municipality As municipal seat, the town of Arroyo Seco, Querétaro is the local government for forty five communities, which together make up an area of 731.1665km2. The municipality is located in the north of Querétaro, the farthest from the state capital 238 km away. The municipality borders the municipalities of Jalpan de Serra and Pinal de Amoles with the San Luis Potosí to the north and west and the state of Guanajuato to the south and west. The municipality consists of forty five communities divided into the municipal seat, five delegations and forty sub delegations. It has a government consisting of a municipal president and nine officials called "regidors". In 2009, the municipality sponsored the first Guadalupana Race, with prizes for competitors in five different categories. Arroyo Seco is a town in Arroyo Seco Municipality located in the far north of the Mexican state of Querétaro. Its territory is part of the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve of Querétaro. The municipality is centered on the small town of Arroyo Seco, which was established as a military outpost then given town status in 1833 under the name of Villa de Guadalupe before changing to its current name. The town gained municipal status in 1931. The area is very rural with most people living in communities of under 100 people, with significant Pame communities. It has a traditional economy based on agriculture, livestock and forestry but it is also one of the poorest in Mexico, with high rates of emigration, especially sending migrant workers to the United States. The Arroyo Seco ("dry wash") is a major tributary of the Salinas River in central California. About long, it drains a rugged area of the Coast Ranges east of Big Sur before flowing through the agricultural Salinas Valley. Name "Arroyo Seco" means "dry streambed" or "dry wash" in Spanish. The river probably got its name because it disappears into the ground more than above its mouth for most of the year, however, it reaches the Salinas during the rainy season. The Arroyo Seco Parkway, also known as the Pasadena Freeway, is one of the oldest freeways built in the United States. It connects Los Angeles with Pasadena alongside the Arroyo Seco seasonal river. It is notable not only for being an early freeway, mostly opened in 1940, but for representing the transitional phase between early parkways and modern freeways. It conformed to modern standards when it was built, but is now regarded as a narrow, outdated roadway. A 1953 extension brought the south end to the Four Level Interchange in downtown Los Angeles and a connection with the rest of the freeway system. Arroyo Seco Raceway is a paved roadcourse style race track, located near Deming, New Mexico. It also includes a drag strip and full race course. Akela Flats is roughly between Deming and Las Cruces. The racetrack is visible to traffic traveling on I-10, just to the south of the freeway. The roadcourse is able to be used in multiple configurations.
