Forcalquier
Forcalquier (; oc, Forcauquier, ) is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France. Forcalquier is located between the Lure and Luberon mountain ranges, about south of Sisteron and west of the Durance river. During the Middle Ages it was the capital of Haute-Provence. History ''Furnus Calcarius'' was the Latin name, from the lime kilns used in Roman times. (A Roman bridge still stands in the valley to the south of the town.) Its Provençal name is ''Fourcauquié''. At the end of the 11th century, a family of the counts of Provence created the county of Forcalquier. During this time, the town of Forcalquier was the capital of Haute Provence along the Durance, which included the towns of Manosque, Sisteron, Gap and Embrun. Châteauneuf-Miravail
Châteauneuf-Miravail (; oc, Chastèunòu-Miravalh) is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France. Geography The Jabron and Druigne rivers run through Châteauneuf-Miravail. History An altar to the Roman god Mars dates back to the Gallo-Roman era. Charters for the locality first appeared in the 12th century, when Châteauneuf-Miravail acted as a stronghold for the town of Saint-Vincent-sur-Jabron. In 1792, during the revolution, a patriotic society was formed in the town. Following the decree of the National Convention of October 16, 1793 for towns holding names reminiscent of royalty or feudalism to create new names, the community became known as Auche-la-Garde. Céreste
Céreste (; Occitan: ''Ceirèsta'') is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France. It is known for its rich fossil beds in fine layers of "Calcaire de Campagne Calavon" limestone, which are now protected by the Parc naturel régional du Luberon and the Réserve naturelle géologique du Luberon. Geography The river Calavon forms the commune's northern and northwestern borders. History A Gallo-Roman period settlement was established in the quarter of today's Saint-Sauveur priory, possibly as a crossing control point for the river. Surviving relics of the Roman period include a potters' oven, an ancient tomb and Sarcophagi at Saint-Sauveur. The Priory of Carluc was founded in the eleventh century. Another priory, that of Saint-Sauveur-Au-Pont, belonged during the twelfth and thirteenth century to the Abbey of Saint Andrew at Villeneuve-lès-Avignon.
