Arroios (Lisbon Metro)
Arroios is a station on the Green Line of the Lisbon Metro. The station is located in the Almirante Reis Avenue, in Arroios neighbourhood. History The station, which opened on 18 June 1972, was designed by the architect Denis Gomes with art installations by the painter Maria Keil. On 19 July 2017, the station was closed for extensive renovations; the station's platforms only had room for 4 cars, requiring use of selective door operation. The platforms were expanded from 75 to 105 metres, enabling all stations on the Green Line to be able to support six-car trains. The station reopened on 14 September 2021. Gare Do Oriente
Gare do Oriente (), or alternately, the ''Lisbon Oriente Station'' is one of the main Portuguese intermodal transport hubs, and is situated in the civil parish of Parque das Nações, municipality of Lisbon. History In 1994, the station was proposed as part of the modernization of the Linha do Norte, a modification to the rail line to facilitate the future development of a new station in eastern Lisbon. Located along Avenida D. João II, over Avenida de Berlim and Rua Conselheiro Mariano de Carvalho, the station was planned to occupy the lands once occupied by Apeadeiro dos Olivais, which was demolished in the 1990s in order to make way for the new station. Bids for building the project on lands to be used for the 1998 exposition were solicited internationally. Alameda (Lisbon Metro)
Alameda is a station on the Green and Red Lines of the Lisbon Metro. The station is located on Avenida Almirante Reis at Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques, east of the Instituto Superior Técnico. History This section of the Green Line opened in June 1972 together with Arroios, Areeiro, Roma and Alvalade stations. The original architectural design of the station was by Dinis Gomes with installation art by the plastic artist Maria Keil. Full refurbishment of the station was completed in March 1998, which involved extending the piers of the existing station for the construction of the Red Line. The architect for this project was Manuel Tainha and the artist was Luís Noronha da Costa. The Red Line station opened in May 1998 in conjunction with Olaias, Bela Vista, Chelas and Oriente stations, with a view to extending the network to the area of Expo '98.
