Aroania (village)
Aroania ( el, Αροάνια) (also known as "Sopoto") is a village and a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Kalavryta, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 173.804 km2. The seat of administration was in the town of Psofida. The municipality is named after the village and the mountain. Aroania (mountain)
Aroania ( el, Αροάνια), also known as Helmos or Chelmos (Χελμός, from South Slavic , "summit"), is a mountain range in Achaea, Peloponnese, Greece. At 2,355 m elevation, Aroania is the third highest mountain of the Peloponnese, after Taygetus and Kyllini, and the highest in Achaea. The largest town near the mountain is Kalavryta. The municipal unit Aroania took its name from the mountain. Geography Aroania is situated in southeastern Achaea, near the border with Corinthia. The slightly higher Kyllini mountain is about 15 km to its east, separated from Aroania by the valley of the river Olvios. The mountain Erymanthos is about 30 km to the west, across the valley of the river Vouraikos. The rivers Krios, Krathis and Vouraikos drain the mountain towards the Gulf of Corinth in the north. Lechouri
Lechouri ( el, Λεχούρι) is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. In 2011, it had a population of 209 for the village and 288 for the community, which includes the villages Kerasia and Selli. The village is situated at about 1,000 m above sea level, near the mountain Kallifoni, which is part of the Erymanthos range. It is 4 km northeast of Livartzi, 6 km south of Ano Vlasia, 4 km northwest of Kamenianoi and 18 km southwest of Kalavryta. Population History Historian G. Poretsano has two theories about the origin of the name Lechouri. The first is the Homeric word "ουρέα" which means "mountain peaks" and the second is the Cretan word "λέσκες" which means "ridges".G. Tritaia
Tritaia ( el, Τριταία) is a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Erymanthos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 244.798 km2. Population 3,086 (2011). The seat of the municipality was in Stavrodromi. Tritaia was named after the ancient Achaean city Tritaea, which was located near the present village Agia Marina. Tritaia is situated in mountainous southern Achaea, on the border with Elis. It nearly surrounds the municipal unit Kalentzi. Mount Erymanthos is located in the eastern part of Tritaia. The Greek National Road 33 ( Patras - Tripoli) runs through Tritaia. Lasiona, Elis
Lasiona (Greek: Λασιώνα) is a former municipality in Elis, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Archaia Olympia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 119.528 km2. Its seat of administration was the village Antroni. Lasiona is situated in a mountainous area on the border with Achaea, 20 km north of Olympia, 27 km northeast of Pyrgos and 50 km south of Patras. Lampeia (Greek: Λάμπεια, before 1928: Δίβρη - ''Divri'', between 1928 and 1929: Πρινόφυτον - ''Prinofyton'') is a mountain village, a community and a former municipality in Elis, West Greece, Greece. Kontovazaina ( el, Κοντοβάζαινα) is a village and a former municipality in Arcadia, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Gortynia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 137.496 km2. Kleitoria ( el, Κλειτορία) is a village and a municipal unit in Achaea, Peloponnese, Greece. It was also the new name of the former municipality Lefkasio, of which it was the seat, between 2008 and 2011. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kalavryta, and became a municipal unit of this municipality. The municipal unit has an area of 253.221 km2. Ioannis Sofianopoulos
Ioannis Sofianopoulos ( el, Ιωάννης Σοφιανόπουλος; 10 August 1887 – 27 July 1951) was a Greek politician. Born in Sopoto, Kalavryta, to the lawyer Andreas Sofianopoulos and Athena Papageorgiou, he studied Law at the University of Athens. Livartzi
Livartzi ( el, Λιβάρτζι) is a mountain village and a community in the municipal unit of Aroania, Achaea, Greece. In 2011, it had a population of 164 for the village and 211 for the municipal district, which includes the villages Livadi and Livartzino. Livartzi is situated at 850 m above sea level, in the southeastern foothills of Mount Erymanthos. It is 4 km southwest of Lechouri, 6 km north of Psofida and 21 km southwest of Kalavryta. It is not known when Livartzi was founded, but it existed before the Ottoman rule. In the 19th century, refugees from Mystras settled the area and the population rose to around 3,000 people.
