Arnott's Biscuits
Arnott's Biscuits Limited is an Australian producer of biscuits and snack food. Founded in 1865, they are the largest producer of biscuits in Australia and a subsidiary of KKR. History In 1847, Scottish immigrant William Arnott opened a bakery in Morpeth, New South Wales. Later in 1865 he moved to a bakery on Hunter Street, Newcastle, providing bread, pies and biscuits for the townspeople and the ships docking at the local port. Until 1975 the company was under family control with the descendants of William Arnott, including Halse Rogers Arnott and Geoffrey H. Arnott, acting as Chairman. Arnott's, in common with the majority of Australian biscuit manufacturers, operated primarily in its home state, New South Wales, but has manufacturing plants in Virginia, Queensland (manufactures only plain, cream and savoury biscuits) and Shepparton, Victoria. Wagon Wheels
Wagon Wheels are a sweet snack food sold in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, other Commonwealth countries like New Zealand and India, and Ireland. They consist of two biscuits that form a sandwich with a marshmallow filling with jam, and they are covered with a chocolate-flavoured coating. Wagon Wheels were invented by William Peschardt, who sold the patent to Garry Weston, son of W. Garfield Weston. Garry Weston worked for his father's business in Australia before taking over his family's business in Sheffield, England. He placed two Marie biscuits around a marshmallow filling and covered it with chocolate. They were introduced in 1948. Halse Rogers Arnott (1879May, 1961) was an Australian medical practitioner, company director and chairman of Arnott's. Family and early life Arnott was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, the youngest son of William Arnott (1827–1901) who was the founder of Arnott's Biscuits and his second wife, Margaret McLean Fleming (1865–1902). His full siblings were: William Arnott; Janet Dunman Arnott; Colonel John McLean Arnott, CMG; Colonel Arthur Smith Arnott; Margaret Fleming Arnott; Robert Fleming Arnott; George Marshall Arnott; Florence Joanna Arnott; and Victoria M Arnott. Morpeth is a suburb of the city of Maitland in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is on the southern banks of the Hunter River at the border between the City of Maitland and Port Stephens Council LGAs. The major population centre, where almost all residents of the suburb reside, is the historical town of Morpeth which takes its name from Morpeth, Northumberland, near Newcastle upon Tyne, in England. William Arnott (6 December 182722 July 1901) was the Scottish founder of the Arnott's Biscuits Holdings (now Arnott's Biscuits Limited) in Australia. Early life William Arnott was born 6 December 1827, in Pathhead, Fife, Scotland, the eldest of eight children. His father was David Millie and his mother was Isobella Arnott. In October 1847, he and his brother David set out for Sydney, Australia on board the assisted-immigrants' ship ''Sir Edward Parry''; they reached Sydney some 135 days later, on 17 February 1848.
