Wadi Mujib
Wadi Mujib ( ar, وادي الموجب, ''Wadi el-Mujib''), also known as Arnon Stream (Hebrew: נַחַל ארנון), is a river in Jordan. The river empties into the Dead Sea circa below sea level. Today, Wadi Mujib is fed by seven tributaries. The western part of the river is the site of the Mujib Biosphere Reserve, popular for hikes & canyoning amid dramatic rock formations. Geography During the last ice age the water level of the Dead Sea reached below sea level, about higher than it is today. It flooded the lower areas of the canyons along its banks, which became bays and begun to accumulate sediments. As the climatic conditions changed, about 20,000 years ago, the water level of the lake dropped, leaving the re-emergent canyons blocked with lake marl. Avraham Arnon
Avraham Arnon (Hebrew: אברהם ארנון; born 1887, died 24 May 1960) was an Israeli educator and a recipient of the Israel Prize. Biography Avraham Arnon was born in Cherykaw in the Russian Empire (now in Belarus). His family later moved to the city of Polotsk, where he received his primary education. In 1909, he was accepted by the High School for Trade and Economics in Kiev. After graduating in 1914, he travelled to the United States and the United Kingdom to continue his pedagogic studies. Arnon then immigrated to Mandate Palestine, becoming one of the first academic teachers in the country. Baruch Arnon
Baruch Arnon (born 8 July 1940 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia) is a classical pianist and renowned music teacher. He is currently a faculty member at the Juilliard School in New York and has previously taught music at the Israel Academy of Music in Tel Aviv and Musica de Camera. Education He began his music studies at an early age and studied piano with Ilona Vincze-Kraus at Israel Academy of Music. By 1959 he was taking master classes under Edward Steuermann. In 1962 he was studying at the Juilliard School with Irwin Freundlich and earned his B.M. Studying under Bernard Wagenaar and Jacob Druckman, he earned his M.S. in 1965. Itzhak Arnon
Itzhak Arnon ( he, יצחק ארנון; born Isaac Aharonowitz; 1909–2005) was an Israeli agronomist. Arnon was born in Antwerp (Belgium). He studied agronomy at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech. In 1932, Itzhak Arnon immigrated to Palestine. In 1933, he was appointed inspector of the Agricultural Experimental Station of the Mandatory Government in Acre. In 1948, he established the agricultural station at Neve Yaar. In 1957, he obtained his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Ruth Arnon (Hebrew: רות ארנון ut aʁ'non born in Tel Aviv on June 1, 1933) is an Israeli biochemist and codeveloper of the multiple sclerosis drug Copaxone. She is currently the Paul Ehrlich Professor of Immunology at the Weizmann Institute of Science, where she is researching anti-cancer and influenza vaccinations. Biography Ruth Rosenberg (later Arnon) was born in Tel Aviv, the youngest of three children. Her father, Alexander Rosenberg, moved with the family to Toulouse to pursue degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics. Upon their return to Israel, he worked for the Israel Electric Corporation. Arnon says her interest in science was inspired by her father.
