Arno Doerksen
Arno Doerksen (born January 25, 1958) is a Canadian politician. Early life Doerksen was born in the Town of Bassano, Alberta, Canada and raised in Gem. He spent more than 25 years in farming and ranching before entering politics. He is a purebred and commercial cattle producer and feedlot operator in partnership with his family. They grow alfalfa, grain and oilseed crops on irrigated land in the Eastern Irrigation District. Political career Doerksen won the 2008 provincial election with 75 per cent of the vote in the constituency of Strathmore-Brooks. He was a member of the Private Bills Committee, the Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing Committee, and the Standing Committee on Community Services. Bassano ( ) is a town in Alberta, Canada. It is located on the Trans-Canada Highway approximately southeast of Calgary and northwest of Medicine Hat. Strathmore-Brooks was a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first-past-the-post method of voting from 1997 to 2019. History The electoral district was created in the 1996 boundary re-distribution from most of the old electoral district of Bow Valley. The 2004 electoral boundary re-distribution saw the boundaries revised to include a portion of land from the dissolved Drumheller-Chinook electoral district, and losing a small portion of the south-east portion of the district to Little Bow. The 2010 electoral boundary re-distribution saw the electoral district completely untouched using exactly the same boundaries as set in 2003. Lyle Oberg
Lyle Knute Oberg (born January 6, 1960) is an Albertan politician and former member of the Legislative Assembly. He is also a physician and business executive. Life and career Oberg was born near Forestburg, Alberta in 1960. A physician by profession, Oberg was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta as a Progressive Conservative in 1993. He was first appointed to the Alberta Cabinet in 1997 and served numerous posts. Oberg was appointed Minister of Family and Social Services in March 1997. Over the next two years, he oversaw the move of children's services and services for persons with developmental disabilities to community-based delivery. Jason Hale (born June 15, 1969) is a Canadian former politician who was an elected member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the electoral district of Strathmore-Brooks. He was elected in the 2012 provincial election as a member of the Wildrose Party. In December 2012 Hale crossed the floor to join Jim Prentice's Progressive Conservative Party. One month after Derek Fildebrandt announced that he would seak the Wildrose nomination in Strathmore-Brooks, Hale announced that he would not seek re-election. As the local MLA, Hale took the lead for the Wildrose Official Opposition when the XL Foods plant in Brooks was shut down due to contamination. The Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta (often referred to colloquially as Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta) was a provincial centre-right party in the Canadian province of Alberta that existed from 1905 to 2020. 2008 Alberta General Election
The 2008 Alberta general election was held on March 3, 2008, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. It was expected to be called early because the governing Progressive Conservatives held a leadership election on December 2, 2006, in which Ed Stelmach was elected to replace Ralph Klein as party leader and Premier. The election was called when Stelmach formally advised Lieutenant Governor Norman Kwong to dissolve the Legislature, which happened on February 4, 2008. With 53% of the popular vote, the Progressive Conservatives won a decisive majority over the Liberal and other parties, despite early suggestions of a closer race. Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as mad cow disease, is an incurable and invariably fatal neurodegenerative disease of cattle. Symptoms include abnormal behavior, trouble walking, and weight loss. Later in the course of the disease the cow becomes unable to function normally. There is conflicting information around the time between infection and onset of symptoms. In 2002, the WHO suggested it to be approximately four to five years.
