Arne Geijer
Arne Geijer (born 7 May 1910, in Söderala, Söderhamn Municipality, Hälsingland, died 27 January 1979 in Bromma, Stockholm) was a Swedish trade union organizer. Geijer left school when he was thirteen and began working in agriculture. He later completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker, and joined the Swedish Metalworkers' Union. At the age of 28 he began working full-time for the union as its director of education, and in 1945 he won election as its general secretary, also taking up a position of the council of the International Metalworkers' Federation. In 1955, Geijer was elected to the upper house of the Riksdag, representing the Swedish Social Democratic Party. The following year, he won election as chair of the Swedish Trade Union Confederation, and from 1957 he held these two posts alongside being president of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions. The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) was an international trade union. It came into being on 7 December 1949 following a split within the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), and was dissolved on 31 October 2006 when it merged with the World Confederation of Labour (WCL) to form the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). Bruno Storti
Bruno Storti (9 July 1913 – 10 January 1994) was an Italian trade unionist and politician. Born in Rome, Storti studied law at the University of Rome before becoming a civil servant. He was one of the leading founders of the Ministry of Defence staff union, then became the national secretary of the National State Federation. This was affiliated to the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), and Storti was elected to serve on its executive. Storti was a religious Catholic, and in 1948 he left the CGIL to become deputy general secretary of a new Catholic workers' trade union federation. In 1950, this became part of the Italian Confederation of Workers' Trade Unions (CISL), with Storti becoming its assistant general secretary in 1954, and then general secretary in 1958. Omer Becu
Omer Liévin Benjamin Becu (21 August 1902 – 9 October 1982) was a Belgian trade unionist, who became General Secretary of the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions. Born in Ostend, Becu trained as a radio operator and joined the merchant navy. He soon became involved in trade unionism, and in 1929 became the full-time assistant general secretary of the International Mercantile Marine Officers' Association. In 1932, he was elected as the union's general secretary, simultaneously becoming general secretary of the Belgian Union of Merchant Marine Officers. In this role, he gave support to the republicans in the Spanish Civil War. Threatened by World War II, Becu escaped to the UK in 1940, continuing in his trade union posts. The International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF) took an interest in his activities, and in 1941 invited him to New York, where he set up a special section of the federation for workers in countries which had been occupied by the Nazis. ... The Swedish National Pensioners' Organisation ( sv, Pensionärernas riksorganisation, ''PRO'') is an advocacy group in Sweden representing pensioners. It's the largest pensioners' organisation in Sweden with 399,303 members as of 31 December 2006. PRO describes itself as "politically independent" but has since its founding had close ties to the Swedish Social Democratic labour movement. The Swedish Trade Union Confederation ( sv, Landsorganisationen i Sverige ; literally "National Organisation in Sweden"), commonly referred to as LO (), is a national trade union centre, an umbrella organisation for fourteen Swedish trade unions that organise mainly "blue-collar" workers. The Confederation, which gathers in total about 1.5 million employees out of Sweden's 10 million people population, was founded in 1898 by blue-collar unions on the initiative of the 1897 Scandinavian Labour Congress and the Swedish Social Democratic Party, which almost exclusively was made up by trade unions.
