Arne Bjørndal
Arne Bjørndal (11 February 1882 – 11 January 1965) was a Norwegian hardingfele fiddler, composer and folklorist. Personal life Bjørndal was born in Hosanger as the son of Peder Monsen Bjørndal and Kari Knutsdotter Nordås. He was married to Brita Rongved from 1910 to 1924, and to Anna Strømmen from 1929. He died in Bergen in 1965. Career Bjørndal started playing the fiddle as a young boy, and later studied with fiddler Ola Mosafinn, while he learned theory by W. Gomnæs, Borghild Holmsen and J. Thorkildsen. He made his concert debut in Kristiania in February 1908. From 1911 he received a scholarship for collecting traditional music. He wrote down thousands of traditional Norwegian folk melodies, which have later been stored at the University of Bergen. He played in more than six hundred weddings, gave more than 1,000 concerts, and had success in folk music contests. Ola Mosafinn
Ola Mosafinn (14 July 1828 – 28 December 1912) was a Norwegian Hardanger fiddle player and composer. Mosafinn is regarded among the more important fiddlers in Norway in the late 19th century. Ola Sjursson was born in Voss in Hordaland County, Norway. He was the youngest of five children born to Sjurd Brynjulvsson Liland (1792–1866) and Ingebjørg Klausdotter Mosafinn (1790–1852). He was raised on the Mosafinn farm from which he took has last name. After graduation in 1843 he was first employed as a school teacher, but was also on demand at weddings and parties. He later went to Hardanger, where he soon came to thrive. In the summer of 1872, crown prince and future King Oscar II of Sweden, made a trip to the west coast of Norway and Ola Mosafinn was invited to perform. Hosanger
Hosanger is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964. The municipality was located in what is now parts of Alver Municipality and Osterøy Municipality in Vestland county. It originally covered all the lands on both sides of the Osterfjorden- Romarheimsfjorden from the Lonevågen fjord all the way east to the county border at the end of the Modalen valley. Hosanger also included an exclave on the Lindås peninsula surrounding the village of Seim at the southern end of the Lurefjorden. Seim was separated from the rest of Hosanger by part of Lindås Municipality. Over time, the areas of Seim and Modalen were split off from Hosanger. Ole Bull
Ole Bornemann Bull (; 5 February 181017 August 1880) was a Norwegian virtuoso violinist and composer. According to Robert Schumann, he was on a level with Niccolò Paganini for the speed and clarity of his playing. Biography Background Bull was born in Bergen, Norway. He was the eldest of ten children of Johan Storm Bull (1787–1838) and Anna Dorothea Borse Geelmuyden (1789–1875). His brother, Georg Andreas Bull became a noted Norwegian architect. He was also the uncle of Edvard Hagerup Bull, Norwegian judge and politician. His father wished for him to become a minister, but he desired a musical career. At the age of four or five, he could play all of the songs he had heard his mother play on the violin. Sofus Madsen
Sofus Trygve Madsen (June 11, 1881 – January 19, 1977) was a Norwegians, Norwegian sculptor that has influenced the cityscape of Bergen with a total of 28 major and minor works. He was the son of the teacher and author Theodor Madsen. Life and work Madsen was born in Oslo, Kristiania (now Oslo), but his family moved to Bergen when he was three years old. He studied under the sculptor Ingebrigt Vik and mostly worked as a stucco artist at that time. Madsen received his artistic education at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and continued his education in Berlin and Paris before settling in Bergen in 1914. Together with Anders Svor he participated in the Art competitions at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris with two sculptures.
