Arnaldo Calveyra
Arnaldo Calveyra (1929 – 15 January 2015) was an Argentine poet, novelist and playwright, living in Paris since 1960. In 1999, Calveyra was made a Commander of the French Order of Arts and Letters for his contributions to the arts. Life Calveyra was born in Mansilla, Argentina in 1929 and remained in the Entre Ríos Province for his early life. He began attending high school in 1943 in Concepción del Uruguay In 1950, he left the province and moved to La Plata where he pursued a degree at the Faculty of Humanities at the National University of La Plata. A research fellowship brought Calveyra to Paris in December 1960. There he met and came to work closely with Julio Cortázar, Alejandra Pizarnik, Claude Roy, Gaëtan Picon, Cristina Campo and Laure Bataillon . ''Sur'' was a literary magazine published in Buenos Aires between 1931 and 1992. History and profile ''Sur'' was first published in 1931, with the assistance of a multidisciplinary team of collaborators. Its founder and main backer was Victoria Ocampo, and it was supported intellectually by the Spanish philosopher José Ortega y Gasset. Many of the earliest editions of ''Sur'' carry the colophon of Ortega's ''Revista de Occidente''. Notable contributors and sometime editors included Jorge Luis Borges, H.A. Le Temps qu'il fait is a French publishing house, first established in Cognac, and active since 1981. History Created and directed by Georges Monti, Le Temps qu'il fait is now located at Bazas, in Gironde. The house draws its name from the eponymous novel by Armand Robin. Guggenheim Fellowships are grants that have been awarded annually since by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation to those "who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts." Each year, the foundation issues awards in each of two separate competitions: * One open to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada. * The other to citizens and permanent residents of Latin America and the Caribbean.
