''Army Navy'' is the self-titled debut studio album by American indie rock band Army Navy, released on August 27, 2008 on the band's label, The Fever Zone. Two singles were spawned from the album, "My Thin Sides" and "Saints", as well as the music videos for them. "Slight of Hand" and the non-album single "Silvery Sleds" appeared in the 2008 film ''Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist'', while the band's cover of Maxine Nightingale's "Right Back Where We Started From" was used in the ''Shrek Forever After'' teaser trailer and in the trailer for '' Parental Guidance''. The album was met with positive reviews from music critics, earning 7.8 out of 10 from Pitchfork Media and 7.9 from AbsolutePunk. Army Navy is an American indie rock group from Los Angeles, California, consisting of Justin Kennedy, Louie Schultz and Douglas Randall. History Their debut eponymous full-length album was released in 2008 on The Fever Zone records. Besides their debut album, Army Navy has also contributed music to the films '' Beastly'' and ''Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist''. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Power pop (also typeset as powerpop) is a form of pop rock based on the early music of bands such as the Who, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and the Byrds. "Right Back Where We Started From" is a song written by Pierre Tubbs and J. Vincent Edwards, which was first recorded in the middle of 1975 by Maxine Nightingale for whom it was an international hit. In 1989, a remake by Sinitta reached No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart.
