''Army@Love'' is an American comic book series from DC Comics' Vertigo imprint, which started in May 2007. It is drawn and scripted by Rick Veitch, with Gary Erskine on inking duties. Issue #12 published in February 2008 was the "season finale". A second series of 6 issues, titled ''Army@Love: The Art of War'' began monthly publication in August 2008. The story follows the adventures of a unit of New Jersey National Guard in "Afbaghistan", a fictional Middle Eastern country. As is often the case with Vertigo Comics, the title is designed to evoke memories of a long-running defunct DC title, in this case, ''Our Army at War'', which, subsequent to its retitling to '' Sgt. Rock'' in 1977, was followed by a one-shot titled simply ''Army at War'' in 1978. Rick Veitch
Richard Veitch (born May 7, 1951) is an American comics artist and writer who has worked in mainstream, underground, and alternative comics. Early life Rick Veitch is a native of the small town of Bellows Falls, Vermont. One of six children, he was raised Catholic. One of his elder brothers was the writer Tom Veitch. Career Early career While still in high school, Veitch and his brother Tom created the comic strip ''Crazymouse'', which ran regularly in ''The Vermont Cynic''. He made his professional debut in 1972, illustrating the underground comix horror parody ''Two-Fisted Zombies'' published by Last Gasp and written by Tom. This one-shot was excerpted in Mark James Estren's 1974 study, ''A History of Underground Comix''. According to Veitch, it also proved to be his ticket to admission to Joe Kubert School. Gary Erskine
Gary Erskine is a Scottish comic book artist. Career Born in Paisley near Glasgow in 1968, Erskine grew up in Rutherglen and attended Burnside Primary and Stonelaw High School. Fellow comic artist Frank Quitely (Vincent Deighan) is the same age and from the same town, but they attended different schools and did not work together in their youth. He started drawing work for fanzines while at art college and aspired to be a comic book artist. After sending samples of his work to Marvel UK he was eventually given ''Knights of Pendragon'' to draw on a regular basis in 1988. Erskine's work proved to be popular and he also drew '' Warheads'' for Marvel UK. Erskine then expanded his work into '' 2000 AD'', drawing a Judge Dredd story written by Garth Ennis. Comics Bulletin was a daily website covering the American comic-book industry. History Silver Bullet Comicbooks The site was founded in January 2000 as Silver Bullet Comicbooks by its New Zealand-based publisher/editor Jason Brice. During this period, the site made efforts to support retired comics professionals. In a Silver Bullet column called ''Past Masters'', contributor Clifford Meth wrote about his efforts to support ailing comic book artist Dave Cockrum. As a result of his advocacy, Marvel Comics announced it would compensate Cockrum for his work in co-creating the X-Men. ''Our Army at War'' was an American comic book anthology published by DC Comics that featured war-themed stories and featured the first appearances of Sgt. Rock and Enemy Ace. The series was published from August 1952 to February 1977, then was renamed ''Sgt. Rock'' in March 1977, continuing the numbering sequence of ''Our Army at War''. Publication history ''Our Army at War'' was launched in August 1952 as part of a wave of war comics. The stories were often followed by tag lines such as "Explosive Battle Action". One of the main characters was Sgt. Rock, who appeared in #81 (April 1959) as Sgt. Rocky along with his team, Easy Company. The character got his final name in issue #83.
