Armor (novel)
''Armor'' is a military science fiction novel by John Steakley. It features the military use of exoskeletons and insect-like alien enemies but concentrates on the psychological effects of violence on human beings. It was first published in December 1984. Plot summary ''Armor'' is the story of humanity's war against an alien race whose foot soldiers are three-meter-tall insects, referred to in the book as "ants". It is also the story of a research colony on the fringes of human territory which is threatened by pirates. The two sub-plots intersect at the end, with each providing answers and insight into events of the other. The title refers to the nuclear-powered exoskeletons worn by the soldiers, but also references the emotional armor the protagonists maintain to survive. John Steakley
John William Steakley, Jr. (July 26, 1951 – November 27, 2010) was an American science fiction author. He published two major novels, ''Armor'' (1984) and ''Vampire$'' (1990); the latter was the basis for John Carpenter's ''Vampires'' movie. He published four short science fiction and fantasy stories. Personal life Steakley was born in Cleburne, Texas. Aside from brief spells in South America and Hollywood, Steakley lived most of his life in Texas. Steakley's father owned a Chevrolet dealership in Dallas from 1962 until he sold it in 1999. Steakley attended St. Mark's School and graduated from Colorado Academy, a boarding school in Denver. He then went on to study at Westminster College in Missouri, and at Southern Methodist University, where he received his BA in English. Joe Haldeman
Joe William Haldeman (born June 9, 1943) is an American science fiction author. He is best known for his novel ''The Forever War'' (1974). That novel and other works, including ''The Hemingway Hoax'' (1991) and '' Forever Peace'' (1997), have won science fiction awards, including the Hugo Award and Nebula Award. He was awarded the SFWA Grand Master for career achievements. In 2012 he was inducted as a member of the Science Fiction Hall of Fame. Many of Haldeman's works, including his debut novel ''War Year'' and his second novel ''The Forever War'', were inspired by his experiences in the Vietnam War. Wounded in combat, he struggled to adjust to civilian life after returning home. From 1983 to 2014, he was a professor teaching writing at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Baton Rouge ( ; ) is a city in and the capital of the U.S. state of Louisiana. is a Japanese author of science fiction and fantasy light novels. He is best known for his novel ''All You Need Is Kill'', which formed the basis of the film ''Edge of Tomorrow'', starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. Life and career Sakurazaka originally began in a career in IT. He made his literary debut in 2002 at the second Super Dash Novel Rookie of the Year Award with ''Mahō tsukai no netto'' (), which was later published in December 2003 under the name ''Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahō''.
